Job Summary

Description

The Director of Student Financial Services (SFS) provides strategic leadership and oversight of all financial aid and student account operations at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS). This role ensures the efficient administration of student financial services compliance with federal and state regulations and the delivery of exceptional service to students. The Director collaborates closely with senior leadership on the management and stewardship of the ESI need-based scholarship program leads financial literacy and debt management initiatives and oversees all audits program reviews and compliance requirements. The Director serves as the primary liaison for internal and external stakeholders on financial aid billing and collections fostering a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement across all SFS functions.



Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Oversee the daily operations of Student Financial Services ensuring the effective delivery of financial aid and student accountservices.

  • Develop implement and assess policies procedures and technologies that enhance operational efficiency and servicequality.

  • Lead mentor and evaluate staff to promote professional growth teamwork andaccountability.

Customer Service & Student Success

  • Establish and uphold high standards of customer service across all SFS activities.

  • Design and deliver workshops and communications that promote financial literacy debt management and informed financialdecision-making.

  • Collaborate with administrative leads within Enrollment Services (Admissions Operations and Registrar) Academic Program Leadership and Student Affairs to support student recruitment retention and satisfaction initiatives.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure full compliance with federal state and institutional financial aid and cash management regulations including TitleIV. Coordinate responses to internal and external audits program reviews and regulatoryinquiries.

  • Prepare and submit all required federal and state reports and certifications accurately and ontime.

  • Monitor financial activities to ensure timely billing funding and collections maintaining campus bad debt within budgetarygoals.

  • Track and report allocations of campus-based and institutional financial aid funds.

Strategic Development & Innovation

  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate and streamline SFS businessprocesses.

  • Enhance online and self-service options for students to improve access and responsiveness.

  • Analyze data and prepare reports to inform decision-making and support institutional financialplanning.

  • Participate actively on institutional leadership committees to ensure effective communication and alignment with broader organizationalgoals.

Professional Development & Institutional Engagement

  • Stay current on financial aid regulations compliance requirements and best practices through active participation in professional organizations conferences andworkshops.

  • Foster collaboration and strong working relationships across academic and business units of theschool.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Dean for Education and EnrollmentService



Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degreepreferred.

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in financial aid and student accounts including at least two years in a managerial or supervisorycapacity.

  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to motivate and developstaff.

  • Strong understanding of federal and state financial aid regulations and institutional fundmanagement.

  • Excellent analytical problem-solving and process improvementabilities.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively acrossdepartments.

  • Ability to translate complex technical and regulatory concepts into clear accessible language for diverseaudiences.

  • Demonstrated commitment to service excellence and continuous improvement.
