-Perform leaching methods as per SGS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This will mainly include cyanide leaches but possible acid leaches as required.
-Make basic reagents as necessary.
-Provides feedback to supervisors and/or group leader regarding any issues encountered during procedures. E.g. Sample spills loss of samples etc.
-Verify and adjust calibrations on a variety of lab equipment including dispensers and balances.
-Ensure that equipment is maintained and in good working order including rollers centrifuges and shakers.
-Inform the supervisor or group leader of any damaged or defective equipment or any equipment requiring complex adjustment.
-Ensure that work order documentation is complete in every respect and QC results are entered into
SLIMS as necessary.
-Maintain clean and organized workbench and fumehood areas ensuring spills are immediately cleaned; disposal is handled according to laboratory procedures.
-Clean labware as required.
-Notify supervisor when consumables are nearing depletion to ensure they are reordered.
-Keep all records and notebooks in good order including work order and equipment maintenance logs
-Adhere to assigned working hours unless otherwise approved by the Supervisor.
-May be asked to work in other areas of the Geochemistry laboratory sections when required.
Qualifications :
-Education: Minimum High school diploma is required.
-Experience: 0-3 years of relevant work experience required or equivalent experience through education.
-Strong analytical and mechanical skills.
-Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples & lab equipment.
-Ability to lift up to 25kg
-Role consists of a lot of shaking and handling of large samples.
-Must be able to read understand and follow work instructions in a safe accurate and timely manner.
-Candidates must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
-Ability to work well with others & independently.
-Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
-Works well under pressure.
-Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
-Ensures full compliance with the companys Health & Safety Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct policies.
-Must use good judgment to identify and resolve problems on the job. When in difficulty refer problems to his/her supervisor for resolution.
-Proficient in using various type of computer software (Word Excel etc.)
