Job Summary

Uncommon Schools North Star Academy is seeking a Robotics Teacher who can teach students to use computer systems (including hardware and software) to program write software set up functions enter data and process information. Students will evaluate designs or specifications to ensure quality and interpret design or operational test results. The teacher will support students with the programming of robotic equipment as well as with testing the performance of electrical electronic mechanical and integrated systems/equipment. Our teachers prepare all students such that they have the choice to study and excel in any STEM discipline. Our teachers become experts in their course content and have a keen sense of how to motivate and inspire high school students. 

Responsibilities

1.     Instruction

  • Youll create a safe and interactive environment where students feel empowered to engage in robotics and allow them to demonstrate knowledge of machines and tools including their designs uses repair and maintenance.
  • Youll build students knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology including applying principles techniques procedures and equipment to design and produce goods. 
  • Youll teach a curriculum of Robotics that inspires students to be science and technology leaders
  • Youll develop students skills of questioning modeling constructing explanations data analysis argumentation and planning and conducting interactive labs.
  • Youll facilitate student-led inquiry of various scientific topics and engage students in lab and project-based performance tasks. 
  • Youll work with the Science department to determine academic and engagement goals for students.

2.     School Culture

  • Youll build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen loved and heard.
  • Youll partner with students families to ensure appropriate resources are available to support their childs learning needs.
  • Youll engage in practice-based professional development mentorship and coaching sessions.
  • Youll participate in weekly school-wide meetings to cultivate community model our core values and encourage student achievement.
  • Youll partner with your grade level team to develop academic goals and practice instructional strategies.

Qualifications :

  • Candidates ideally have relevant experience and/or coursework but more importantly they must have the energy and passion to empower our students through technology

  • An enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students
  • A self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives 

Required Experience:

  • A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred).
  • Expertise in STEM Technology Engineering and/or Robotics (2-3 years of experience preferred).
  • Prior to the start of employment you must have a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Teacher certification is not a prerequisite for consideration at Uncommon Schools in the state of NJ but you do need to meet NJ state certification eligibility requirements (a final undergraduate or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduates on or after 9/1/16 or 2.75 if you graduated prior to 9/1/16). All instructional staff are required to become certified in the state of New Jersey within a reasonable period after beginning employment.

Compensation

Compensation for this role is between $60000 to $85000. 

Starting pay is determined using various factors including but not limited to relevant full-time teaching experience education certifications and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time Teaching experience will likely have a starting salary of $60000.
