Summary

Plans organizes coordinates and manages the overall activities of engineering support team. Manages and directs personnel required to develop training products and services technical documentation for complex technical and operational processes and secure applications for a variety of platforms and environments. Negotiates and establishes contractual arrangements with customer and management. Represents engineering business and/or technical writing project activities to stakeholders. Performs project management functions and adheres to project management standards to ensure that cost schedule and resources are maintained in accordance with customer expectations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides work assignments to engineering support team and/or technical documentation/training team that are supportive of mission and objectives.
  • Assures individual project accomplishments and overall team effectiveness are achieved relative to organizational objectives.
  • Provides leadership for staff development and ensures team member accountability to meet personal and business objectives.
  • Directly supervises engineering support team and performs other managerial responsibilities including interviewing hiring and developing associates planning assigning and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding team members; addressing barriers and resolving problems.
  • Provides technical and administrative evaluation of work units goals development and performance.
  • Coordinates training technical documentation and secure applications efforts including schedule familiarity and obstacle removal; works closely with program manager technical managers and and customers to resolve technical or administrative problems affecting deliverables.
  • Implements business practices metrics and procedures to assure quality of products and services provided by engineering support team.
  • Works with key leaders to develop and implement strategic objectives of the business.
  • Coordinate and manage continuous improvement activities amongst team members looking for synergies to make operations and procedures more efficient.
  • In collaboration with program management actively monitors project costs schedule issues and deliverables. Provides project management oversight to achieve quality delivery and cost objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains customer focus to ensure that expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Communicates with other program project and technical management regarding project status issues concerns and opportunities. Proactively resolves project issues as they arise.
  • Encourages and facilitates internal and external teamwork and promotes customer service. Assures adequate support services are provided by other organizations as required.
  • Develops and implements staffing plans budget proposals and equipment requirements consistent with anticipated workloads.
  • Coordinates with other government agencies and private sector to develop technical or administrative solutions to customer expectations.

You Must Have

  • Bachelors degree in Education Communications Business Engineering Technology or Science
  • 7 or more years of experience
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to work on-site as directed by management and as determined by the needs of the business
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)

We Value

  • 7 or more years of experience leading teams
  • Experience in methodologies related to training and technical communications classroom or field training or related engineering or operational activities.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in managing complex projects.
  • Ability to work well with external customers and a diverse technical staff.
  • Experience with business activity systems such as ERP Solumina Feith PeopleSoft and others.
