The Infrastructure Practice Group The Infrastructure Practice Group is charged with developing sustainable solutions to help close infrastructure gaps in developing and emerging economiesWe help countries address their unique infrastructure needs by working with the public and private sectors. Infrastructure improves lives by connecting people to opportunity. For more information: VPU Context: The East Asia and Pacific Region (EAP) and the EAP Regional Infrastructure Department (IEADR). The EAP region serves 22 client countries with a total population of about 2 billion. Clients range from large IBRD countries such as China Indonesia Vietnam and the Philippines; to smaller IDA countries (or IDA/IBRD blend countries) such as Cambodia Laos Mongolia several Pacific Island states Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste. The EAP region presents a dramatic illustration of the global dynamics opportunities and risks of the 21st century. EAP has made spectacular progress towards achieving the WBGs twin goals eliminating extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity extreme poverty declined faster than any other region and the income of the bottom 40 percent increased substantially. Such a rapid transformation has made EAP one of the most dynamic regions in the world. However it also faces significant challenges such as managing the largest shift in rural-to-urban population in human history coping with rising inequality addressing large infrastructure gaps dealing with climate change and building human capital. The EAP Infrastructure Department (IEADR) is responsible for project lending and policy advisory work in the energy transport and urban related climate action and private capital mobilization space for the EAP Region. The department presently comprises an energy and extractives unit (IEAE1) a transport unit (IEAT1) and two Urban units (IEAU1 and IEAU2). Unit Context: The EAP Transport (IEAT1) portfolio now includes 30 ongoing projects and is hiring a Practice Manager in Singapore to work alongside the current manager. Responsibilities will be divided based on each managers strengths with this allocation forming part of the selection process. Candidates must be prepared to oversee any transport program or project in the EAP region and demonstrate their relevant readiness and competence. Transport Global Practice Context: The transport sector is undergoing significant changes driven by digitalization urbanization climate change evolving supply chains and regional integration. These shifts challenge traditional business models and expose vulnerabilities but also present opportunities for the World Bank and others to promote sustainable resilient and inclusive mobility. Transport is crucial for sustainable development yet it generates congestion air pollution GHG emissions and accidents with recent research indicating these effects vary between women and men.
