Ko tōu ake mahi - What youll do
As the Group Manager Sector Policy youll shape the direction of the funded health sector and influence systemwide improvements for priority population groups. Working closely with Ministers the DirectorGeneral and Deputy DirectorGeneral youll provide senior leadership across policy areas such as aged care primary and community health care disability maternity and child and family health which includes joint work with the wider social sector. You will represent the Ministry in key social sector and crossgovernment governance forums and support the DDG DG and Ministers in these wider forums. Your work will help ensure the health system plays a strong coordinated role in improving outcomes for children and families disabled people older people and priority communities.
You will work with and alongside the other Policy Group Managers in Strategy and Policy to deliver advice on cross-cutting areas such as pharmacy oral health and laboratory services as required and to collectively support strong joint leadership of the policy work programme. You will also work across the wider policy leadership team in the Ministry to build policy capability.
- Set and lead the policy direction for fundedsector areas including aged care primary and community care maternity child and family health and the health of disabled people.
- Drive health system contributions to social sector priorities leading policy advice and strategic work programmes across interagency and crossgovernment initiatives.
- Provide senior leadership and influence in wider social sector policy contexts working collaboratively to improve outcomes for children families women rainbow communities and other priority populations.
- Lead the strategic planning and delivery of the Groups work programme supporting the Deputy DirectorGeneral and strengthening the Ministrys system leadership through highquality evidencebased advice.
- Ensure that the work of teams is evidence-informed and clinically sound drawing on the wider expertise of the Strategy and Policy Group HealthNZ and the wider system including using a multidisciplinary approach to key projects.
- Build strong relationships and highperforming teams rolemodelling Ministry values while leading people programmes and partnerships to deliver Government and Ministry priorities.
- Strengthen the Ministrys policy capability through bringing expertise and experience in leading large policy functions and landing significant programmes of work combined with strong people management skills and an empowering style.
- Contribute to the governance of Strategy and Policy as part of the Senior Leadership Team driving the strategic direction for the health system.

Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What Youll Bring
- A relevant tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) with deep expertise in public policy and frameworks for funding and commissioning services and central government environments.
- Demonstrated policy leadership experience including leading leaders and delivering large complex programmes in dynamic settings.
- A health or social policy background is not required but you will demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of social sector policy and its intersection with health with proven experience influencing crossagency priorities and outcomes.
- Advanced knowledge of the machinery of government and able to operate at the political interface and manage risk with a proven track record of building and maintaining trust and confidence on sensitive and nuanced issues.
- Strategic resilient and valuesled leadership with excellent communication skills a commitment to equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi the ability to prioritise and the ability to lead through change.
