Job SummaryThe Queens Journal is an entirely student-run newspaper at Queens University. The paper was founded in 1873 and has been continually published ever since. The Journal publishes a bi-weekly print edition and regular online content throughout the year.A writing sample must be e-mailed to at the time of your application submission to supplement your application. Please include your name and the position title in the files CompetenciesCommunicationCultural SensitivityTeamworkCreativityProfessionalismJob DutiesWrite assign edit and fact checkup to 8 stories per weekTrain and manage one Assistant Editor and contributors to complete assigned tasks efficiently and attentivelyGenerate story and photo ideas for each issue including keeping close contacts with Queens Athletics & Recreation (A&R)Have a high level of interest in Queens Varsity sports teams and club athleticsRequest photos for each story and acquire supplied photosDevelop relationships with relevant campus clubs and organizationsAttend all in-print press days to lay out stories in the paper (occurs every other Thursday)For both in-print and online-only press day upload stories to The Journals website (occurs every Monday and Thursday for the first six weeks of each semester and every Thursday for the last six weeks of the semester)Work with the Production Manager and visuals team to develop visual content for each storyWork closely with the Editor(s) in Chief to develop the vision and direction of the sectionAttend all Editorial Board and section-head meetings as well as all trainings provided to staffRespect and adhere to all company policies procedures and ethical standardsComplete all assigned tasks efficiently and attentivelyMaintain timely communication with your direct supervisorStrive to foster a warm comfortable and respectful atmosphere for allAlways serve as a representative of the AMS and its mission statementComplete other duties as assignedJob RequirementsPossess strong organizational and interpersonal skillsAbility to thrive in a fast-paced environmentWork ConditionsInteraction with coworkers management and the Queens community
