The Secretariat of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) is seeking a Scientific Data Collection Program Coordinator to join our team based in Hobart. This role is offered initially as a 2-year fixed-term contract with a view to permanency following review. We anticipate this being an ongoing position.

About the Role:

As the Scientific Data Collection Program Coordinator you will coordinate and oversee the implementation and continued development of CCAMLRs scientific data collection programs

  • Scientific Data Program Ownership: Oversee the full lifecycle of CCAMLRs scientific data collection programs (fishery reporting scientific observation fish tagging and acoustic data) from program design through to data collection submission analysis and reporting.
  • Member Technical Support: Provide expert guidance to member nations to ensure consistently high data quality including developing training materials manuals data collection forms and supporting processes.
  • Routine Analysis & Reporting: Conduct regular analyses of fishery data collection program outputs and produce annual reporting papers for the Scientific Committee and its working groups.
  • Scientific Committee Support : Assist the Science Manager in providing technical and administrative support to Scientific Committee meetings and working groups including rapporteuring and other duties as needed.
  • Science Team Support:Provide broader support to the Science Manager across project management scientific analyses and staff supervision as required.

Your Skills and Experience:

To be successful in this role you will be a creative thinker with a passion for facilitating and enabling research programmes. You will be team orientated with the ability to build strong working relationships and support the broad mission and goals of the Secretariat. You will also have:

  • Experience with multi-stakeholder/international fisheries-related vessel and observer data collection programmes.
  • An understanding of data collection program design and/or research methods in marine fisheries.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated experience with the analysis and handling of fishery data.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word Excel (including Macros) and Powerpoint
