Whats the role

The Principal Exploration Geoscientist Consultant Malaysia serves as the foremost geoscience thought leader for Shell Malaysia Exploration. This role defines and steers the subsurface strategy across the Malaysia exploration portfolio ensuring Shell continues to identify mature and deliver valueaccretive opportunities that underpin the nearmid and longterm growth of Shells Malaysia Upstream business.

Beyond deep technical expertise the position demands strategic vision critical thinking an enterprise-wide mindset and leadership that strengthens Shells competitive positioning within Malaysias dynamic regulatory and partnership environment. This role is essential in safeguarding Shells advantage in mature basins while driving the opening of new growth frontiers across the Sabah and Sarawak oil and gas heartlands.

What youll be doing

In this role you will provide senior technical leadership and challenge to ensure highquality subsurface understanding and decisionmaking. You will guide play and prospect maturation shape technical framing for Malaysia bid rounds and growth opportunities and deliver TA2 Assurance for well maturation. A core focus of the role is strengthening decision quality and driving seamless subsurface integration across teams.

You will lead natural teams uphold Shells technical excellence standards and enhance the companys external engagement with regulators partners and industry forums. Success requires a balance of deep technical credibility and strong strategic visionenabling you to unlock new ideas reframe opportunities and maximize portfolio value. While the role does not include formal line management you will provide influential technical leadership across multidisciplinary crossfunctional teams.

• Ability to synthesize complex subsurface commercial and strategic drivers into clear actionable insights that shape venture direction.
• Strong integrative skills across subsurface domains with the ability to work effectively in ambiguity and convert uncertainty into practical pathways forward.
• Willingness to constructively challenge assumptions and promote diverse perspectives to uncover new value opportunities.
• Proven capability to link technical evaluations to business value commercial strategy and portfolio priorities.
• Effective stakeholder management and influencing skills across internal and external partners including PETRONAS and JV partners.
• Diplomatic and credible engagement in complex stakeholder environments.
• Sound judgment in assessing subsurface risks uncertainty ranges and value implications throughout the exploration lifecycle.
• Ability to communicate complex technical and strategic narratives simply clearly and persuasively to varied audiences.
• Deep experience in play and prospect maturation seismic and well planning and risk/volume integration.
• Ownership of technical assurance ensuring quality and integrity of team technical deliverables.
• Strong leadership in integrating geoscience engineering and commercial perspectives to deliver holistic solutions.
• Adaptability and the ability to lead teams through change in dynamic environments.
• Commitment to ethical standards responsible resource development and sustainability principles.
• High performance expectations with a commitment to growth mindset innovation and continuous learning.

What you bring

• Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in Geoscience with 15 years of relevant exploration experience and a strong geological grounding. Experience in Malaysia or Southeast Asia is an advantage.
• Proven track record in opportunity generation maturation and framing subsurface uncertainty.
• Demonstrated leadership in natural teams with strong mentoring and technical coaching capabilities.
• Ability to effectively influence partners and external stakeholders.
• Strong commitment to HSSE with a solid understanding of subsurface process safety.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 25%.
