What do you offer

This position reports directly to the Facilities Manager and leads the day-to-day operations and management of the physical plant services at the YMCAs flagship location Taggart Building (180 Argyle Ave.).

The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for the facilities management and cleaning functions at the YMCAs flagship location Taggart Building (180 Argyle Ave.). The Facilities Supervisor will ensure the maintenance cleaning and repair of all facilities and major equipment and systems including HVAC plumbing electrical and aquatics systems while maintaining good communication with all parties involved.

The Facilities Supervisor oversees a team of approximately twenty staff. Through a Lead Hand on each of the Facilities and Cleaning teams the Supervisor will ensure sufficient staff coverage through efficient scheduling and workload management.

The Facilities Supervisor plays a leadership role for their team and works with staff at all levels and throughout all YNCR departments to implement standards of service excellence (Y Way) to ensure a high quality of service delivery to internal (YMCA departments) and external clients. This role leads by example building the Shine On values and competencies into goal-setting and performance management for the facilities team and ensuring standards are met at all locations.

The Facilities Supervisor will have project management responsibilities ensuring that staff and contractors adhere to established timelines budgets legislative and regulatory requirements (such as health & safety employment standards daycare cleaning standards safe material handling) and internal policy requirements (such as strategic directions child protection security practices and customer service standards).

The Facilities Supervisor will manage and implement the facilities budget for Taggart Building and review spending as necessary to achieve both facilities and financial objectives.

The Facilities Supervisor will stay up to date with and implement as necessary building technologies such as building automation systems remote monitoring AI tools for preventive maintenance and software tools for workflow management. This role will also be responsible for implementing energy efficiency/environmental sustainability initiatives such as waste reduction heat loss prevention and sustainable procurement.

The Facilities Supervisor will prepare technical analyses and narrative reports for the Executive Team to assist with organizational planning and reporting.

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education

  • High School Diploma

Language

  • Fluent in English oral and written
  • Other languages are an asset

Experience Skills and Abilities

  • Five years experience in commercial facility maintenance or a related industry.
  • Successful work experience in commercial facility maintenance
  • Successful work experience in the supervision and scheduling of staff
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in order to deal effectively professionally and diplomatically with staff and customers
  • Related experience in the skilled trades and/or building maintenance preferably in one or more of the following areas: Housekeeping Electrical/Plumbing Operating Engineering/Pneumatics Mechanical HVAC Pool Filtration/Water Chemistry
  • Experience in pool operation is an asset; Pool Operator Preferred
  • Valid Drivers License and ongoing access to a car

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • A Police Record check not more than 6 months old is Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) - if any - is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirement of working with children therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position.
  • Semi-annually staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
