Mainframe Systems Programmer

Apogee Global RMS is looking for a Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer who will be responsible for installing configuring maintaining and optimizing z/OS mainframe environments that support missioncritical enterprise workloads. This role requires strong technical ownership deep understanding of IBM mainframe subsystems and the ability to ensure high availability performance and security across complex infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Systems Programming

• Install customize and maintain z/OS and related IBM subsystems.
• Manage SMP/E system upgrades patching and maintenance cycles.
• Configure system parameters parmlib members exits and JES2/JES3 environments.

Subsystem & Middleware Support

• Support and tune core components such as VTAM TCP/IP RACF DB2 CICS IMS MQ or equivalent.
• Troubleshoot subsystem performance availability and integration issues.
• Maintain catalog structures storage classes and data management utilities.

Performance Monitoring & Automation

• Analyze system performance capacity and utilization trends.
• Implement automation tools and procedures to improve operational efficiency.
• Support IPL processes disaster recovery testing and system cloning activities.

Operations & Incident Management

• Troubleshoot complex system issues across hardware OS and middleware layers.
• Collaborate with application network and security teams to ensure endtoend stability.
• Maintain documentation standards and operational runbooks.

• 512 years of experience as a Mainframe Systems Programmer.
• Strong handson experience with z/OS SMP/E JES2/JES3 and IBM mainframe utilities.
• Experience supporting one or more subsystems: CICS IMS DB2 MQ RACF VTAM TCP/IP.
• Solid understanding of mainframe storage catalog management and performance tuning.
• Strong diagnostic and problemsolving skills using IBM tools and logs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with mainframe modernization or hybrid integration initiatives.
• Familiarity with REXX CLIST or automation scripting.
• Exposure to DR orchestration GDPS or sysplex environments.
• Relevant IBM certifications.
