Position Summary:
Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) teachers in our District are high-energy passionate about our students growth and development and engage in culturally responsive behaviors to ensure that all students academic health and wellness needs are met.
Through ECSE the teacher will plan develop and impart research-based classroom pedagogy that fosters an enriching academic and social experience for all students. The ECSE teacher will direct instruction provide guided practice collaborative practice and independent practice and monitor student progress toward individual educational goals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assess the present skill level of students through tests records of tests checklists observations and ongoing interaction with the child
- Prepare an appropriate Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each child with input from the parent therapists and other team members
- Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings with families and therapists
- Implement the plan through class activities and individual sessions
- Maintain written plan for each session. Create and implement lesson plans aligned with learning objectives
- Gather and prepare materials for instructional classroom activities and outdoor learning experiences
- Keep records of each students progress toward goals in each developmental area: language cognitive fine and gross motor and social-emotional
- Consult with other teachers regarding children served jointly
- Inform parents of the childs progress regularly through scheduled written reports and conferences
- Participate in planning for the facilitation of any parent meetings celebrations or social activities
- Record the childs attendance child/family contacts and conferences
- Perform beginning and end-of-year tasks for housekeeping storage inventory etc.
- Keep abreast of early childhood best practices through conferences professional journals in-service and other means as available
- Supervise and support aides volunteers and practicum students if applicable
- Work cooperatively with aide co-teacher therapists and principal
- Participate in meetings/collaborations
- Maintain an attractive well-organized and neat classroom with co-teacher and/or aides
- Collaborate with members of IEP team and other staff to generate IEP and make academic

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications noted below are required to enable the employee to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of this position.
- Missouri Elementary Certification B-3 and Early Childhood Special Education
- Teaching experience or equivalent in an urban environment
- Superior interpersonal relationship skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sufficient vision to read printed material see distant objects with clarity and identify and distinguish objects
- Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone and hear sounds clearly up to 30 feet
- Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone and in addressing groups
- Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects
- This position requires standing walking sitting bending and reaching for extended periods of time
- Sufficient manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects operate mechanical equipment and move about the work area
- This position will subject the employee to work environments that have exposure to weather or interiors with extremes of heat and/or cold wet and/or humid conditions high noise levels and various work related hazards
