Job Summary

This role is responsible for overseeing the capture triage and resolution of all PostDevelopment Engineering issues across Rough Sorting and DVI (Diamond Verification Instruments) disciplines. You will be responsible for ensuring all Post Development electronic engineering issues are resolved efficiently and effectively to maintain strong product performance and reliability while fully adhering to the De Beers Life Cycle Management (LCM) and Change Process frameworks.

In addition the role forms part of the PostDevelopment Team contributing to a range of small to mediumscale cradle to grave projects within De Beers Science and Technology supporting the delivery of innovative solutions from initial concept through to final implementation.

KEY WORK OUTPUTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure full adherence to the internal De Beers Life Cycle Management (LCM) or Change Process framework in the execution of all PR (problem Report) related activities.
  • Report directly to TPM (Technical Programme Manager) participating in regular 1:1 check ins. Review workload status priorities and challenges as part of a structured recurring schedule.
  • Monitor and triage all PRs (Problem Reports) arising from obsolescence production supply chain and quality related issues. Obsolescencerelated issues must be resolved by implementing robust futureproof solutions such as updating or replacing components within the PCB. All work should be completed within the LCM/Windchill Altium and NAV BOM frameworks ensuring full crossreferencing with mechanical and software teams for accurate validation.
  • Work closely with the Production & Tech Support team when implementation changes.
  • Work with mechanical and software team members to integrate solutions into overall technology and processes.
  • Electronic design capture and PCB layout using Altium.   
  • Hardware development using embedded microprocessors.
  • Design to meet regulatory standards - EMC Safety and RoHS.
  • Design and documentation of cable forms and product wiring.
  • Firmware development in embedded C/C .
  • Provision of 2nd line technical support during different phases of a project.
  • Carryout in-house compliance EMC and Machineries Directive.
  • Use your ingenuity and engineering skills to design and test hardware solutions to defined automation problems.
  • Integrate system elements such as collaborative robots motors microcontrollers and pneumatics.
  • Utilise relevant rapid prototyping development and simulation techniques to create your designs.
  • Accountable for developing test specifications for both PCBs and New Product Improvements (NPIs) along with preparing all required production documentation for final signoff.

 


Qualifications :

  • Minimum: BEng/BSc in Electronic Engineering or related engineering discipline

Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years industry
  • Experience of product development lifecycle (cradle

to grave).

  • Electronic design capture and PCB layout using Altium.   
  • Hardware development using embedded microprocessors.
  • Experience with motor control both DC motors and Stepper Motors.
  • Experience in project team environment of peer review progress reporting and meeting targets
  • Collaborative team-player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Qualified to degree or higher in electronics or related discipline
  • Experience in integrating hardware software and control systems
  • Focused on developing high quality electronics and systems; continuously improving development tools and processes.  
  • Experience with designing with embedded microprocessors Ethernet USB and other serial interfaces DC and Stepper motor control
  • Experience with Design for manufacturability and design for testing.
  • Design and documentation of cable forms and product wiring
  • Firmware development in embedded C/C 
  • Version control systems
  • IT literate and familiar with PC and networking technologies.
  • Familiar with peer review and presentation of technical work.
  • Experience with working to relevant electronic automation and robotics safety standards
  • Ability to capture analyse and understand data generated through experiments
  • Believes in continuous learning and staying abreast of latest technologies
  • Design to meet regulatory standards - EMC Safety and RoHS.
  • Carryout in-house pre-compliance which could be EMC testing.
  • IT literate and familiar with PC and networking technologies.

 

Desirable:

  • Electronic design capture and PCB layout using Altium.   
  • Experience with Low Voltage Directive Radio Equipment Directive and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive is desirable.
  • Experience in understanding legacy electronics using best practice circuit analysis. Which may include circuit diagrams Electronic CAD and Firmware
  • Experience in using PLM (product Lifecycle Management) software
