About the role

AEMOs Operations Transformation & Reform department has a pivotal role in driving forward the strategic transformation of operational capabilities to ensure readiness for evolving systems and markets. Looking ahead the department will support and enable Operations to manage energy system challenges through reform technology innovation and international best practice adoption. This department is responsible for embedding a culture of agility and innovation by embracing new ideas and responsible change that enhances system and market operations. This Department is a critical interface with the broader AEMO organisation and with wider external stakeholders.

You will be responsible for overseeing divisional governance reporting performance tracking financial management resource management contract management document management collaboration tools stakeholder engagement and communications within Operations. The incumbent will drive seamless coordination and alignment across various departments and stakeholders. The role requires the establishment of rigorous governance monitoring and reporting processes to support the effective execution of our strategy. This role will be pivotal in overcoming complex function challenges fostering collaboration and enhancing Operations project management and shared services capabilities. Through strategic leadership and team development the role ensures the delivery of high-priority initiatives that directly contribute to AEMOs success in accelerating the energy transition and achieving its strategic objectives.

What you will be doing

  • Ownership of Operations strategy operations division priorities and annual business planning including delivery of business plan initiatives in collaboration with Operations managers and working closely with the Corporate strategy team to drive overall AEMO delivery.
  • Streamline & continuously improve governance and meeting frameworks; and streamline and oversee governance structures and forum frameworks for Operations led initiatives. Uplift / establish cascading Operations reports and dashboards. Review and streamline current reports automating and improving visibility for decision making. Develop dashboard reporting including Divisional Business Plans. Collation of reports.
  • Lead Financial Management for the Operations Division ensuring accurate reporting and timely escalation of issues with recommended solutions. Set clear performance expectations for GMs and cost centre owners fostering a culture of accountability and high performance working in conjunction with the Finance Business Partner.
  • Manage Resource forecasting onboarding for project resources. Design and oversee the Operations resource forecasting timesheet process onboarding extension and offboarding management for Operations centrally. Working in conjunction with the HR Business Partner and the Operations Technology and Reform Program. Manage contracts for Operations.
  • Support all Operations stakeholder engagement evolving to align with our strategic goals.

What you will bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualification in electrical engineering power systems or equivalent.
  • Qualification in Project Management (e.g. CERT IV/Diploma etc) or equivalent in-house training and on the job experience
  • Extensive program management experience Proven ability to deliver complex programs of work.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and managing teams that work in complex environments - shaping a proactive and ownership-based team culture fostering a service oriented outcome-focused and pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills - building and maintaining effective relationships.
