Overview
Touro Universitys New York School of Career and Applied Studies is looking for applicants to join our Manhattan campus faculty. The undergraduate Biology Department offers courses toward our B.S. in Biology which includes the Medical Honors Pathway Dental Honors Pathway and the fast track PharmD degree. The Department also teaches classes within the AAS in Nursing Medical Assistant and Medical Imaging programs. The professor would be required to teach at least four undergraduate classes per semester which may range from Principles of Biology to advanced electives lectures and labs.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Professor of Biology will be responsible for a wide range of activities including but not limited to the following:
- Teach a range of up to four courses per semester using varied modalities including in-person traditional classes asynchronous online classes and synchronous remote classes via zoom. Additional classes may be available for extra compensation.
- Prepare course materials such as syllabi homework assignments handouts hands-on activities and projects.
- Be prompt and accurate in the recording and reporting of student data. Support students learning goals by considering the needs and abilities of the students becoming familiar with academic and social support provided by the university and provide academic advisement.
- Contribute to academic life on campus by serving on college committees and participating in student recruitment activities.
- Participate in ongoing professional development toward an understanding of advances and developments in the field as well as the teaching profession.
- Contribute to the departments efforts to continually develop and update curriculum.
- Support and develop new initiatives for the department.
- Build and maintain a laboratory-based research project that involves several undergraduate students per semester.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Ph.D. in Biology or related field.
- At least 3 years teaching experience at college level.
- Record of research experience and research publications.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication
- Interpersonal competencies including diplomacy professionalism judgement and discretion as well as the ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students faculty and colleagues.
- Proficiency in Canvas Zoom and the Microsoft Office suite: Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook.
