The Conservation Programs Heritage and Regulation Group (part of the Department of Climate Change Energy the Environment and Water (DCCEEW)) are looking to create a Project Officer talent pool to support the delivery of biodiversity stewardship agreements across NSW.

These roles work closely with landholders assessors and internal staff to provide technical advice undertake field assessments and help guide the preparation of inperpetuity management plans and associated Total Fund Deposit calculations.

As a Project Officer youll:

  • Support delivery of biodiversity stewardship agreements.
  • Provide technical advice on applying the Biodiversity Assessment Method.
  • Assist with program delivery operational processes and development of guidance material.
  • Undertake fieldwork and site assessments as required.
  • Prepare reports and detailed site-specific feedback.
  • Work collaboratively across a dispersed team.
  • Engage with landholders assessors and other internal and external stakeholders to support program outcomes.

Ideally youve:

  • Have a relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science ecology natural resource management or similar.
  • Hold a current Australian driver licence.
  • Be a Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) Accredited Assessor or strong experience applying the Biodiversity Assessment Method.
  • Strong understanding of NSW biodiversity conservation and environmental legislation.

But whats most important is your:

  • Familiarity with Biodiversity Offsets and Agreement Management Systems (BOAMS) and the Biodiversity Assessment Method Calculator (BAMC).
  • Experience interpreting vegetation and threatened species habitat mapping.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing sitescale management plans and costings.
  • Ability to review large and complex datasets and documents for consistency.
  • Ability to use GIS tools (ArcGIS Pro or QGIS) to review spatial data and maps.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across NSW for fieldwork and stakeholder engagement including driving long distances and working in remote locations.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake overnight travel for up to one week at a time.
