Community Engagement Officer

Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager this role plays a key part in AFCAs engagement activities with a strong focus on reconciliation outreach and accessibility. Youll also be helping to ensure our services meet the needs of the people we serve regardless of their lived experience and personal circumstances.
This is a hands-on role for a confident self-starter who enjoys juggling multiple activities engaging with the community and contributing to meaningful change.
In this role you will:
- Build on existing initiatives and develop new approaches to enhance AFCAs accessibility as an external dispute resolution scheme
- Support the delivery of AFCAs consumer engagement strategy including administrative support for key internal stakeholder networks
- Represent AFCA at conferences outreach activities and events including preparing event briefs presentations and collateral (events may occur on weekends or public holidays)
- Ensure all engagement and communications materials align with AFCAs brand and style guidelines
- Participate in internal working groups as directed
- Source and manage quotes from external suppliers ensuring value for money and high-quality outcomes
- Develop and maintain strong cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including consumer groups
- Contribute positively to team culture and broader organisational objectives
- Undertake other reasonable duties aligned with the role
This is initially a 6-month contract role.
Qualifications :
To be successful youll bring:
- A degree qualification in communications public relations or a related field
- Strong knowledge of stakeholder engagement principles and best practice
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including confidence representing AFCA at external events
- Proven ability to write edit and produce high-quality professional communications
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple activities manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
- A proactive mindset with the ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with others
- High emotional intelligence sound judgement and a respectful constructive approach to decision-making
- An understanding of the community or consumer advocacy sector (highly desirable)
