Provides enterprise-wide leadership to develop implement and advance a comprehensive patient safety program. Delivers direct operational oversight to drive harm reduction learning and system reliability. Serves as a key partner to physician quality and safety leaders and reports directly to the Chief Quality Officer. Oversees program development innovation and integration of safety science into daily operations to support high reliability and zero harm.
Essential Functions:
- Provides direct oversight of the Patient Safety team and advances engagement teamwork innovation and career development.
- Manages the safety reporting system and processes safety event review analysis and learning systems Hospital-Acquired Conditions (HAC) portfolio and harm prevention initiatives. Ensures timely high-quality review of safety events and translates insights into actionable improvement strategies.
- Leads the development of scalable sustainable safety infrastructure that supports enterprise-wide reliability. Provides strategic oversight and partners to ensure alignment with patient safety priorities and organizational goals.
- Champions innovation in safety learning systems harm prevention safety culture pediatric technology and medical device development. Collaborates to embed patient safety principles into daily work.
- Serves as a key collaborator with physician quality and safety leaders and fosters shared ownership of patient safety outcomes as a leader in the Center for Clinical Excellence (CCE). Represents patient safety in executive forums committees and external collaborations.
- Promotes innovative approaches that integrate safety science data and experiential learning. Utilizes data and dashboards to monitor safety performance identify trends and guide strategic decision-making. Supports the CQO in governance strategy and reporting related to patient safety. Partners to leverage data and methods that identify risk test interventions and support system redesign.
- Designs implements and continuously advances patient safety programs that reflect best practices and emerging science. Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory accreditation and reporting requirements.
Certifications:
Formal certification or advanced degree related to patient safety quality or healthcare leadership preferred.
Skills:
- Proven ability to develop implement and lead complex programs in a large healthcare organization required.
- Strong collaboration communication and leadership skills with the ability to partner effectively with physician and administrative leaders required.
Experience:
- Clinical background (e.g. nursing medicine pharmacy or other licensed health profession) required.
- Demonstrated experience in patient safety leadership including safety event reporting and review systems required.
- Advanced training in patient safety and/or related fields required.
- Experience in pediatric academic healthcare settings preferred.
- Familiarity with quality improvement methods simulation programs and infection prevention and control preferred.
- Track record of innovation and measurable impact in patient safety outcomes preferred.
