The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody healthcare and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work
This position reports to the Correctional Programs Director and functions in the Programs Section of a minimum custody male correctional facility. This position provides transitional and re-entry programs and oversees rehabilitation programming for offenders. Management Preferences
Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessment.
Documented knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs.
Documented 12 months (1 year) of correctional program experience.

This is afull-time position(40 hours per week) withState Benefitswith established working hours and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY result.
About Wake Correctional Center:
Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh is a minimum custody prison for adult males. It is primarily a work unit in that 80 percent of the offenders leave the facility each day for incentive wage work assignments in various state agencies in the Wake County area. Offenders also work at other area adult correctional-facilities and Correction Enterprises operations. There are also offenders nearing their release date that participate on the work release program leaving the facility to work for businesses in the community. Incentive wage work assignments are also available at the prison in the food service clothes house janitorial landscaping maintenance canteen and recreation areas.
Wake Technical Community College works with the prison to provide full-time vocational classes in Certified Communications Heating/Air Conditioning and Electrical Wiring. Part-time classes in Blueprint Reading and Horticulture are also available. Educational classes in GED preparation college-level courses and college correspondence classes are available.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution AND one year of experience in corrections or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
