Design Manager for Data Center

AECOM is seeking a Design Manager for Data Centre to be based in Romanias Enterprise Capabilities office in Bucharest. This position will support a team locally based in Romania and Global Teams. As a part of AECOMs culture it offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement which accommodates both office and out-of-office work schedules.

Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Design Manager to lead the technical delivery of hyperscale data center projects in Romania. This role focuses on overseeing the design process from master planning through detailed design and construction documentation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in architecture or engineering excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multidisciplinary design teams to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
 Design Oversight: Manage the design of data center core and shell projects including architecture civil structural mechanical electrical plumbing security and fire protection disciplines ensuring adherence to quality standards and design requirements.
 Technical Excellence: Administer oversee and perform peer reviews and quality checks in line with AECOM standards to ensure the highest level of technical quality in all design outputs.
 Basis of Design: Oversee the development and maintenance of the project basis of design and localization processes ensuring compliance with client specifications and local regulations.
Scope Management: Establish and implement processes to detect track and resolve design scope changes errors or inconsistencies throughout the design lifecycle.
 Stakeholder Engagement: Host and attend meetings with clients and external stakeholders ensuring effective communication and alignment on design objectives.
 Problem Solving: Identify potential design challenges early in the process and develop innovative solutions to address them effectively.
 Contract Compliance: Ensure that all design work complies with contractual obligations and AECOMs standards.
 Resource Coordination: Identify and coordinate design resources in collaboration with department leadership to support project execution.
 Proactive Communication: Provide regular updates to stakeholders regarding design progress and address any outstanding issues. 

Qualifications :

 Educational Background:

• Bachelor of Science or Engineering from an accredited university.

• Master of Science/Engineering would be advantageous.

 Experience:

• Minimum of 12 years of experience within the Built Environment with a focus on technical design delivery.

• Proven experience in managing the design of hyperscale data centers or similar complex technical projects.

 Skills and Attributes
Strong technical expertise in architecture or engineering disciplines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary design teams.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Ability to proactively manage design scope and quality to meet objectives.
Familiarity with local design and construction standards and regulations.
