Job Summary

An Outstanding-rated secondary school in Gloucester is seeking an experienced and committed SENCO to join its senior leadership structure from April. This is a key leadership role within the school responsible for driving inclusive practice ensuring high-quality provision for pupils with additional needs and maintaining full compliance with statutory SEND requirements.

The school has a strong reputation for academic excellence and inclusive values. The successful candidate will build on an already well-established SEND framework and continue to raise standards across identification intervention and pupil support.

The Role

  • Leading and developing the schools SEND provision across KS3 and KS4 (with KS5 where applicable)

  • Overseeing the identification assessment and monitoring of pupils with additional needs

  • Managing EHCP processes annual reviews and external agency coordination

  • Line managing teaching assistants and SEND support staff

  • Working closely with parents carers and external professionals

  • Ensuring full compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding legislation

  • Supporting staff through training and development to promote inclusive classroom practice

  • Monitoring the impact of interventions and reporting to senior leaders and Governors

  • Contributing to whole-school strategic planning as part of the leadership team

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • The National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete)

  • Proven experience leading or contributing to SEND provision in a secondary setting

  • Strong knowledge of statutory SEND frameworks and compliance requirements

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

  • The ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on pupil support

  • A calm empathetic and organised leadership style
