JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: CPSD Educational Interpreter
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
LENGTH OF CONTRACT OR WORK YEAR: 9 months (187 days)
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interprets for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the educational setting as outlined by the IEP;
- Communicates through sign-language or speech for the student to the teacher and teacher to student;
- Collaborates with special education teacher(s) general education teacher(s) related service provider(s) paraprofessional(s);
- Collaborates regarding academic supports and adapt classroom/school activities to promote participation of the deaf or hard of hearing student;
- Encourages interaction with hearing peers by modeling appropriate social strategies;
- Prepares for classroom academic content;
- Assists special education teachers in the review of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hearing impaired;
- Participates in IEP and parent meetings when appropriate;
- Consults with school personnel to provide training and support regarding necessary supports for students who are deaf or hearing impaired;
- Reports to Director of Special Education Director but also works closely with building administrators;
- Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the building administrator or Director of Special Education;
- Maintains confidentiality and privacy of all student records;
- Maintains punctuality attendance and appropriate professional behavior;
- Completes assigned tasks or duties in a timely manner;
- Works assigned days using sick and personal leave appropriately; and
- Adheres to the Mississippi Educator Code of Ethics.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Registered with the Mississippi Office on Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH)
- Mississippi Provisional Certification Q&A Certification or RID Certification
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience working in the public school setting.
