POSITION SUMMARY The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine ( JCESOM ) at Marshall University seeks exceptional candidates for the position of Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. The Department of Pediatrics is a large multispecialty department comprising more than 16 pediatric subspecialties and hosting 65 pediatric providers 21 general pediatric resident physicians 8 internal-medicine pediatric resident physicians and 6 subspecialty fellows in neonatology pediatric hospital medicine and developmental-behavioral pediatrics. The department provides high quality care to patients at Hoops Family Childrens Hospital at Cabell Huntington Hospital Rivers Health and outpatient clinics across the region. The Chair oversees all operational and programmatic aspects within the Department of Pediatrics including clinical research and education activities. This includes managing budgets and resources fostering the development and mentorship of faculty providers and trainees and overseeing innovative models of health care delivery. The Chair also promotes excellence in patient care supports educational initiatives and advances research and scholarly activity through grants publications and presentations. Key responsibilities include: Academic Leadership Provide visionary leadership to advance the departments growth and a culture of excellence. Collaborate with Marshall Health Network leadership to enhance clinical excellence patient satisfaction quality and research initiatives. Ensure exceptional clinical and research education and training for medical students residents and fellows while also providing educational mentorship to faculty. Maintain the highest standards of academic and clinical excellence for the departments residency and fellowship training programs Clinical Oversee planning funding and sustainability of departmental activities while maintaining excellence and required accreditations and certifications. Work directly with hospital administration to develop budgets and manage financial issues related to clinical operations. Expand services to across West Virginia and surrounding rural communities. Research and Scholarly Advancement Guide grow and participate in a dynamic collaborative research environment Support faculty in securing extramural funding developing translational research and sustaining nationally recognized research programs. Identify and address departmental research infrastructure and resource needs Faculty Development and Recruitment Recruit retain and develop a diverse and high-performing faculty. Conduct faculty evaluations and support professional growth through mentorship development opportunities and performance recognition. Encourage collaborative and cross-disciplinary academic activity. Strategic and Fiscal Management Collaborate with the Dean and leadership team to shape and implement a strategic departmental vision that supports institutional goals. Oversee the department budget and financial management ensuring fiscal responsibility and effective resource allocation to support strategic goals and financial sustainability. Institutional and Community Engagement Represent the department within the medical school across the university and with external partners and agencies. Serve on key committees and support initiatives that advance institutional priorities and regional impact. Foster a sense of community transparency and shared purpose among faculty learners and staff. Promote community partnerships and interdisciplinary collaboration.
