Position Summary:
The Transportation Assistant supports Trinity Homes residents by safely transporting them to and from appointments activities and other designated locations both inside and outside the facility. This role plays an important part in resident care by ensuring transfers and escorts are completed with dignity compassion and careful attention to individual mobility and safety needs. Working closely with nursing staff and other care team members the Transportation Assistant maintains clear communication accurately documents transport activity and helps coordinate schedules to promote timely efficient resident movement. Through dependable service and a resident-centered approach this position contributes to resident well-being and supports the smooth well-organized operation of daily facility routines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transport residents to internal and external appointments activities and therapy sessions ensuring safe movement and appropriate use of mobility aids.
- Assist residents with transfers boarding and exiting vehicles or wheelchairs in accordance with safety procedures and individual care needs.
- Maintain transport schedules communicate delays or concerns to nursing staff and document transport activity as required.
- Conduct pre-transport checks of equipment wheelchairs and vehicles to ensure cleanliness readiness and safe operation.
- Provide courteous supportive interaction with residents and families promoting comfort and confidence throughout the transport process.
- Follow infection-control guidelines resident-specific precautions and facility safety protocols at all times.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Educational Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Experience Requirements:
- Prefer experience in the health care field but not required.
Special Skills or Training Requirements:
Physical Requirements:
The Transportation Assistant is frequently required to stand walk bend and assist with lifting or repositioning residents including supporting wheelchair transfers and maneuvering mobility equipment. The role involves pushing and pulling wheelchairs securing residents safely and occasionally lifting moderate-weight items or supplies. Adequate strength coordination vision and communication skills are essential to ensure resident safety and respond effectively to changing mobility needs.
Environmental Requirements:
Work occurs both within the long-term care facility and outdoors or in community settings during resident transport. The role may involve exposure to varying weather conditions vehicle noise and differing environmental temperatures. Inside the facility the Transportation Assistant may encounter resident care activities infection-control precautions and frequent interruptions.
