Reports to: Building Principal associated with nurse assignment and the District Lead Nurse

Position Overview: The School District of Washington is seeking a school nurse to assist with day to day student health needs. Ideal candidates demonstrate the ability to form professional relationships with staff effective oral and written communication skills high level organizational skills and the ability to work with students and parents. This position has a key role in fostering a positive productive and safe environment for students.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Planning preparation and implementation of health-related services for students including record keeping staff notifications parent communication and related training as needed.
  2. Administer first aid to injured students provide short-term care to enhance the comfort and safety of injured or ill students and assist with such activities in the event of a staff emergency.
  3. Administer and record medications in accordance with individualized health plans.
  4. Take and record vital signs administer screening as directed maintain immunization and other relevant records manage chronic health conditions in the school setting and respond to daily visits to the nurses office from students.
  5. Complete clerical tasks such as state reports on immunization and screening monthly health reports and other records that may be needed or apply.
  6. Responsible for writing and reporting employee accident forms working with Human Resources staff to coordinate documentation investigation of workplace accidents and assist with communication.
  7. Regular and reliable attendance is necessary in order to perform the functions of this position.
  8. Perform associated roles as required for building operations and to respond in the event of an emergency including training requirements supervisory roles Board of Education policy requirements etc.
  9. Report suspected abuse and neglect as directed by Board of Education Policy.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned or required for District operations.

Other Related Responsibilities:

  1. Maintains appropriate student records and timelines associated with school nursing duties.
  2. Attend meetings and workshops necessary for District operations and to enhance knowledge in areas of general responsibility.
  3. Maintains confidential nature of all school related material.
  4. Attend events outside of the regular school day designed to bring the public into the school serve on a committee and attend required meetings associated with the role of nurse.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: The Health Services Team works a typical school nurse work calendar of 178 working days (185 paid days). Thirty-five hours per week aligned to the student academic calendar can be generally expected. Applicable health and ancillary insurance annual paid leave award and defined benefit pension plan. Starting rate is established by the Board of Education as it aligns to the nurse pay schedule and depends on qualifications.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the supervisor using the Districts professional support staff evaluation tool.

PHYSICAL MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand walk and sit. Additionally the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
