Job Summary
The Facilities Technician I is responsible for keeping school facilities and grounds in excellent condition in order to provide a high-quality learning environment for all students.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Performs grounds maintenance including trimming spraying cleanup mulching mowing and replacing playground surfaces
- Handles light repairs roof maintenance and ceiling tile replacements.
- Supports technicians with plumbing electrical HVAC carpentry and related maintenance tasks.
- Engages in training to expand knowledge of facility operations and maintenance.
- Follows all district safety procedures and properly uses tools equipment and personal protective equipment.
- Responds to routine maintenance requests and supports emergency repair operations as needed.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Chief Facilities and Maintenance Officer or Foreman.
Minimum Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or GED or equivalent and experience

Required Licenses or Certifications
- Possess a valid drivers license and maintain safe driving record.
- Experience in groundskeeping landscaping or general maintenance preferred.
- Ability to obtain respirator certification if required.

Specific capacities and abilities may be required of an individual in order to learn or perform adequately a task or job duty.
Knowledge of
- Methods materials and tools used in performing routine groundskeeping maintenance
- Safe operation of equipment and adherence to established safety protocols
Skill in
- Safely using or operating power tools equipment and vehicles required to perform groundskeeping and maintenance work.
- Operating assigned vehicles hand and power tools telephones and other standard office equipment.
- Performing routine maintenance and repair work in accordance with district standards.
- Effective verbal and written communications.
- Basic troubleshooting and problem solving
Ability to
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- Perform regular maintenance and repairs to buildings and equipment in a timely manner.
- Operate the power and hand tools required in maintenance and repair work.
- Perform moderately heavy manual labor and work from ladders or on uneven terrain.
- Effectively diagnose and resolve routine maintenance issues including in response to emergency or hazardous situations.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff students administrators contractors and the public.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

- Regular lifting of objects that exceed 50 lbs. occasional lifting of heavier items.
- Frequent walking standing bending stooping kneeling reaching pushing and pulling.
- Climbing ladders and working at elevated heights or on uneven terrain.
- Use of power tools ladders and maintenance equipment on a regular basis
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat cold rain and snow.
- Exposure to temperature fumes dirt dust noise and chemicals.
- Work is performed independently or as part of a team and requires adherence to safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
- The role is expected to respond to maintenance needs promptly and may be required to support emergency repair operations outside regular working hours.
