JOB TITLE: Pharmacy Technician
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Certification from a state-approved Pharmacy Tech program preferred.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: This position assists the Pharmacist and licensed personnel in record keeping inventory and other necessary items for the smooth operation of the Pharmacy department within scope of responsibility and training.
Required Skills Knowledge and Abilities: Effective communication skills; both orally and written. Computer skills needed. Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong problem-solving skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with pharmaceutical preparations IV admixtures and pre-packing medications not in unit dose under the supervision of the Pharmacist.
- Receives orders and stores incoming pharmaceutical supplies.
- Cleans equipment according to prescribed methods.
- Stocks Pyxis and follows-up with discrepancies. Obtains information for incomplete user use.
- Counts daily statistics and enters data in computer to maintain patient charges.
- Processes records of medication dispensed to hospital patient computes charges and enters data in computer.
- Identifies potential risks to patients: identifies risks to patients in order to reduce incidence of injury; identifies actions to eliminate minimize or report risks; identifies procedures to follow in the event of an incident; reports processes for common problems failures and user errors.
- Utilizes concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.
