- Two (2) positions under the direction of the Summer Swim Program Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operation of the LMUSD Summer Swim Program which consists of programs operated at the Arroyo Grande High School and Nipomo High School pools.
Minimum Requirements:
- Graduation from high school or its equivalent.
- Valid CPR certification & first aid course.
- Lifeguards Only: Valid Lifeguard Certification with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer First Aid Epi and Asthma Training Emergency Oxygen First Aid for the Public Safety Personnel and Bloodborne Pathogens Training.

TITLE: SUMMER SWIM PROGRAM LEAD LIFEGUARD / INSTRUCTOR
SALARY RANGE: $18.00 / hr
This is a short-term position which is outside the classified service per Education Code 45103(d)(2). Accordingly the position does not receive the statutory rights of classified employees and does not receive health benefits. The position reports to the Human Resources Department.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent or Summer Swim Program Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operation of the LMUSD Summer Swim Program which consists of programs operated at the Arroyo Grande High School and Nipomo High School pools that will operate from April through August. Implements aquatic programs with permission from the District. Ensures that all appropriate water health and safety standards are maintained. This includes but is not limited to ensuring the Summer Swim Program is properly and safely run for the duration of all aquatic activities ensuring all water safety equipment is in proper working order (and notifying the District immediately when equipment is broken and/or needs to be replaced) and ensuring strict adherence to Summer Swim Program policies.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from high school or its equivalent.
Experience: Prior experience in aquatics programs and aquatic facilities
Knowledge: Current office procedures including proper telephone techniques spelling punctuation grammar word processing accurate alpha/numeric filing proficient use of current office equipment including computers fax machines photocopier and scanner. Oversight of petty cash purchases and receipts and completion of all necessary paperwork for District processing of employee payroll.
Ability to make procedural decisions and judgments; read understand and follow oral and written instructions; organize and execute work efficiently; act calmly and sensibly in stressful situations; ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment and with frequent interruptions; establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with staff students parents and others.
Certification: Current aquatic procedures including completion of an American Heart Association (or equivalent)
(Instructor Only): CPR first aid course.

Experience: At least 2 years involvement in the Lucia Mar Summer Swim Program
Additional: Previous Lifeguard Experience
Speak/Read/Write Spanish fluently
Knowledge of Google Suite including Docs Sheets Mail
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
GENERAL: Employee in this position must have the ability to:
- Lead the training scheduling and performance of staff and student employees of the program; supervises the day-to-day activities of staff
- Oversee the daily implementation of a variety of aquatics programs for students and/or members of the general public with permission from the District.
- React to emergency situations by quick movements strenuous activity and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights
- Remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting standing or walking for various lengths of time.
- Track and monitor daily revenue and expenditures for the Summer Swim Program
- Adhere to aquatic safety standards and guidelines
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL: Employee in this position must have the ability to:
- Stand and sit for extended periods of time; swim regardless of pool depth
- See and read printed matter with or without vision aids.
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Speak English so that others may understand at normal levels.
- Stand walk stoop twist bend over grasp reach overhead push pull and move lift and/or carry 100-150 (body weight) pounds to waist height.
- Is able to move throughout the building and school grounds as necessary.
MENTAL: Employee in this position must have the ability to:
- Able to concentrate on a single task for up to two (2) hours at a time.
- Able to learn quickly and adapt to a variety of technology machinery instructions and task methods.
- Able to meet deadlines in terms of work assignment schedules.
- Is able to speak and write in a clear concise manner.
SOCIAL: Employee in this position must have the ability to:
- Interact daily in person with other members of the District and Summer Swim program staff and possess comfortable interpersonal skills and cooperative attitudes
- Because of the time-urgent nature of duties and because the work completed by the Coordinator is interdependent with that of other staff consistent attendance is required
- Convey an understanding patient attitude toward other students parents staff and members of the community
- Maintain the privacy of confidential information including student grades progress etc.

CANDIDATE SELECTION: The Candidate selected for this position will be required to present prior to the first date of employment: 1) A social security card; 2) proof of tuberculin test; 3) pass State and Federal fingerprint clearances; and 4) complete all pre-employment training including but not limited to Child Abuse Reporting and Sexual Harassment/Abusive Conduct.
