In order to be considered for this position the candidate must be serving permanently in the title of City Planner or must have taken passed and be reachable on the Open Competitive City Planner Exam #1112.
The Automated Enforcement Unit (AEU) part of the Division of Traffic Operations at the NYC Department of Transportation oversees four automated enforcement programs: red light bus lane speed and Weigh in Motion (WIM). Automated enforcement is a core pillar of the Mayors Vision Zero initiative and recent legislative changes are driving rapid program expansion and modernization.
AEU is seeking a Planning Lead to guide programmatic planning that supports the growth coordination and strategic direction of automated enforcement programs. The successful candidate will supervise staff shape program development and ensure that expansion efforts are data-driven well coordinated and aligned with industry best practices.
Key responsibilities include supervising staff setting priorities and reviewing analytical work products; leading planning strategies for current and future automated enforcement initiatives; and coordinate with contractors and agency partners on Automated Camera Enforcement planning.
The Planning Lead will collaborate across the agency on a multifaceted high-visibility program. The role will also support internal AEU teams on a range of projects and contribute to research pilots and evaluations related to emerging automated enforcement technologies. The candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a national Community of Practice board and help shape the future of this rapidly evolving field

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning; or
2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to 1 above. Graduate
education in city planning urban planning urban design architecture landscape architecture transportation engineering public administration economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.
Special Qualification Requirements
Assignment Level III
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements one additional year of professional experience as described in 2 above.
Assignment Level IV
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements two additional years of professional experience as described in 2 above.
