In order to be considered for this position the candidate must be serving permanently in the title of City Planner or must have taken passed and be reachable on the Open Competitive City Planner Exam #1112.
The Automated Enforcement Unit (AEU) is part of the Division of Traffic Operations at the NYC Department of Transportation. AEU manages four automated enforcement programs: red light bus lane speed and Weigh-in-Motion (WIM). Automated enforcement is a core component of the Mayors Vision Zero initiative and recent legislative changes require rapid program expansion and modernization.
AEU is seeking two City Planners II to support this growth and help ensure expansion is coordinated data-driven and aligned with best practices. Planners will have the opportunity to:
-Develop planning strategies for individual automated enforcement programs and future expansions
-Coordinate with contractors to address construction and installation barriers at key intersections and corridors
-Streamline communication with the MTA and other DOT teams on future Automated Camera Enforcement bus planning
-Use spatial crash analysis and safety risk mapping to understand where different crash types are occurring at intersections to inform targeted camera siting (i.e. directional approach)
-Work with teams across DOT to apply crash data and analysis to prioritize where enforcement is most likely to improve safety outcomes
-Support coordination across DOT units to map AEU infrastructure alongside other agency assets to support integrated planning and implementation
-Coordinate with multiple DOT to incorporate proactive datasets including pedestrian and cyclist volumes vulnerable populations and emerging near-miss data into siting methodologies
-Work with internal AEU teams such as processing auditing and administration to keep tracking applications up to date and on ad hoc projects as needed
-Research best practices and emerging automated enforcement technologies and help support pilots evaluations and grant applications
Hours/Shift: 35hrs/Monday-Friday/ 9am-5pm

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning; or
2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to 1 above. Graduate
education in city planning urban planning urban design architecture landscape architecture transportation engineering public administration economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.
Special Qualification Requirements
Assignment Level III
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements one additional year of professional experience as described in 2 above.
Assignment Level IV
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements two additional years of professional experience as described in 2 above.
