EYP & PYP Coordinator - Roles and Responsibilities
1. Programme Leadership
Lead the implementation of the IB Primary Years Programme from Early Years (ages 3-6) through Grade 5/6
Ensure continuity and progression of learning from play-based inquiry in EYP to concept-driven inquiry in PYP
Promote a shared understanding of IB philosophy learner profile ATL agency and action across all grades
2. Curriculum & Planning
Design review and refine the Programme of Inquiry (POI)
Support teachers in developing high-quality unit planners (EYP & PYP)
Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum
Guide inquiry that is:
Play-based and developmentally appropriate in EYP
Transdisciplinary and concept-based in PYP
3. Teaching & Learning Support
Coach and mentor teachers in inquiry-based teaching practices
Support differentiation inclusion and student agency
Model effective inquiry strategies and classroom practices
Support specialist teachers in aligning with PYP philosophy
& Documentation
Ensure assessment practices are aligned with IB principles:
Observational and narrative assessment in EYP
Formative and summative assessment in PYP
Guide documentation of learning through portfolios learning stories and reflections
Monitor consistency and quality of assessment across the programme
5. Professional Development
Plan and lead ongoing professional learning for staff
Identify and coordinate IB workshops and training
Support induction of new teachers into EYP and PYP
6. Learning Environment & Well-being
Ensure learning environments are:
Safe inclusive and engaging
Designed to promote inquiry play and independence
Advocate for student well-being safeguarding and voice
Support smooth transitions (home EY PYP next programme)
7. IB Authorization & Compliance
Ensure compliance with IB standards and practices
Coordinate IB authorization candidacy and evaluation processes
Act as liaison between the school and the IB organization
Maintain documentation and evidence for IB visits
8. Collaboration & Leadership
Work closely with school leadership and support staff
Lead collaborative planning and reflection meetings
Support alignment between EYP and PYP and with other programmes if applicable
Contribute to school improvement planning
9. Family & Community Engagement
Communicate IB philosophy and learning approaches to parents
Support parent workshops exhibitions and learning celebrations
Encourage family involvement in student learning and action
