Reports To: ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT OF TEACHING AND LEARNING | Location: DISTRICT-WIDE |
Compensation:Commensurate with salary range on the DCPS Certified Salary Schedule for class code 0150. Hours Per Day: 7.0 hours/day Contracted Days: 240 days/year |
QUALIFICATIONS |
Required: Hold a valid Kentucky Administrative Certificate. Have a minimum of 5 years of experience as an elementaryprincipal or have a combination of 10 years of experience as an elementary assistant principal and elementary principal. Have strong presentation and communication skills. Worked on a successful team. Preferred: Hold a valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate for Grades K-12. Have a combined teacher coaching or building leadership experience of at least 10 years at theelementary level. Knowledge Of: Sound instructional practices to raise student achievement. Effective communication skills. Record-keeping techniques. Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer e-mail and websites. |
JOB DESCRIPTION |
Job Summary: Responsible for providing leadership and support to elementary schools and overseeing MTSS. Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities: Teaching and Learning - Works to implement the teaching and learning vision of the district.
- Serves as leader and general resource person in matters relating to elementary instruction.
- Demonstrate understanding of effective instructional practices intervention strategies and use of assessment practices.
- Understand the learning progressions of foundational literacyreading and writing and numeracy.
- Reinforces teaching and learning as a primary level of positive impact on student achievement by frequently visiting classrooms with principals and participating in problem solving that helps principals to enact high quality professional learning at their school sites.
- Knowledge of the learning process.
- Understanding of the whole child including cognitive social and emotional development.
- Experience in implementing high quality instructional resources/curriculum.
- Support elementary schools in creating and improving an efficient system of instruction.
Educational Leadership - Dedicates their time to supporting elementary schools.
- Seek input from various stakeholders on decisions.
- Understand issues from multiple perspectives providing strong interpersonal skills.
- Employ innovative thinking and strategic planning to create change in response to identified school performance needs.
- Use data to assess the impact of change on the determined need.
- Ensure elementary schools are culturally/socially responsive and have equitable access to resources necessary for the success of each student.
- Engage in individual and collective professional learning activities to meet professional learning goals.
Smooth and Effective Functioning of the District - Advocate for and inform the coherence of organizational vision policies and strategies to support schools and student learning.
- Builds and supports trust among the district and schools.
- Connects principals to central office resources and personnel.
- Collaborates with the OTL Team to ensure student success in all areas with particular attention to special education transition between levels and closing achievement gaps.
- Serves on both the District Leadership Team and OTL Core Team to implement the mission of the district.
- Serves as a liaison on behalf of the elementary principals to Human Services and Operations departments.
- Understanding of the fiscal needs of schools and how to leverage resources for equity.
Growth and Support of Elementary Principals - Build relationships with principals based on the knowledge of adult learning theory common goals trust support and mutual accountability.
- Differentiate the support given to each principal through balancing the learning needs of the principal and the instructional needs of the school.
- Model effective instructional leadership.
- Establish and sustain safe and supportive learning communities that provide peer feedback and promote innovative thinking.
- Conduct routine and systematic meetings with elementary principals in a collaborative manner.
- Support principals in reaching their goals by monitoring progress conducting site visits providing feedback and completing the formal evaluation process.
MTSSMulti Tiered System of Support - Serve as the coordinator of MTSS for the district.
- Collaborate with the District Leadership Team to establish monitor and revise expectations for MTSS implementation.
- Provide systematic support for MTSS throughout the district.
- Provide support and consult with school personnel concerning MTSS needs for all students and staff.
- Assist schools and students by observing students and recommending ways to strengthen interventions.
- Lead on-going job-embedded professional learning for staff to support effective implementation of MTSS.
- Evaluate progress of district MTSS making course corrections measuring impact and scaling effective approaches for increasing effectiveness and close achievement gaps.
- Chair the District MTSS committee.
- Maintain and update reports required by the district and state.
- Research and disseminate information about innovative ideas for MTSS.
- Lead the development of policies and procedures regarding MTSS.
- Foster the continuation of support and professional relationship with KY-ABRI or other outside partners.
