Summary:
This position is responsible for processing all medical record releases of information requests in a timely and efficient manner ensuring accuracy and providing customers with the highest quality product and customer service. The associate must at all times safeguard and protect the patients right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patients medical information. Associate maintains confidentiality and security by confirming all releases of information comply with the request and/or authorization departmental policy and HIPAA regulations. Reviews and validates requests for the release of medical information according to established departmental policies and procedures. Scans and enters requests into the appropriate release of the information database application in preparation for processing. Determines records to be released by reviewing requestor information following departmental and HIPAA guidelines. Coordinates and communicates with applicable departments and/or off-site record storage vendors to obtain portions of the medical record that apply to the requested information. Processes approved requests following departmental policies & procedures while ensuring medical privacy and compliance is maintained to guard against unauthorized disclosures. Assists with various related administrative duties such as servicing walk-in customers and processing incoming faxes mail telephone inquiries and internal requests for information. Performs other related duties as required. High school diploma or equivalent experience. A minimum of two (2) years of medical record experience or setting with basic knowledge of HIPAA is preferred. Basic computer proficiency with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required. Must be able to utilize phones copier fax scanner printer and other general office equipment. Professional verbal and written communication skills in the English language are required. Detailed and quality-oriented. Strong data entry skills. Must be able to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment. Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks. License Registration or Certification Requirements: Certification in Health Information Management (RHIT or RHIA) is preferred but not required.
