WHV delivers 1800 My Options Victorias only sexual and reproductive health information service.

About 1800 My Options

1800 My Options are a free and confidential phone line and online service providing information about contraception pregnancy options (including abortion) and sexual health. We work alongside hundreds of trusted healthcare providers in Victoria to link individuals to the services that best suit their needs.

Role Purpose

TheSRH NavigationSpecialistdeliversthe1800 My Optionsservice by responding to enquiries about sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and ensuringaccurateinformation is provided to serviceusers andhealthsectors.

The role also involves working closely with the SRHsectorto support navigationmaintaininga service databasefollowing agreed standards and protocolssupporting team wellbeing through peer debriefing and contributing to healthpromotiontosupport highqualityservice delivery and community awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to phone and online enquiriesregardingcontraception pregnancy options (including abortion care) and sexual health serving a diverse range of stakeholders including individuals families and service providers.
  • Deliver a confidential impartial and pro-choice service that respects the needs and autonomy of allserviceusers followingagreed scripts and service protocols to ensure the highest standard of service delivery.
  • Providepersonalisedreferral pathways to SRH services based on individual needs and circumstances.
  • Monitor andmaintainthe service database to ensureaccurate current information on service availability.
  • Identify sector trends service gaps and emerging issues through data monitoring and stakeholder engagement.
  • Respondappropriatelyto disclosures including child sexual abuse suicidalbehaviours family violence sexual assault and/or reproductive coercion in line with established protocols.
  • Support the wellbeing of team members through regular in-shift peer debriefing and coaching.
  • Ensureaccuratedata recording and upholdhigh standardsof data integrity across all interactions.
  • Liaise with theTeam Leaderregardingrisk service challenges or feedback received during shifts.
  • Contribute to health promotion activities and evidence-informed projects as defined in theteam workplan including events social media and resource development.
  • Engage meaningfully with underserved communities to ensureequitableservice access and culturally safe referrals.
  • Communicate effectively share information and work cooperatively with team members to contributeto the achievement of individualteamandorganisationalgoals.
  • Foster a safe and healthy workplace by adhering to health and safety policies and procedures and promoting a culture of wellbeinginclusionand respect.

Selection criteria

Qualifications

  • Tertiary-levelqualificationincounselling social work psychology nursing welfare publichealthor related field.

Workexperience

  • Five yearsexperienceworkinginhealth or community services including peerdebriefing healthnavigationand/orreflective practice(preferred).
  • Experiencesupporting womenand gender diverse peoplefrom underserved communitiesproviding person-centredcare to addressstigmatized health issues.
  • Experience insupporting individuals insensitive or complexsituations includingadhere to internal protocols and risk managementpractices.

Skills andcompetencies

  • Excellentinterpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage empathetically with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of womenand gender diverse peoplessexual and reproductive health particularly relating to abortion and contraceptioncare.
  • Advanced assessment and risk management skills with the ability to respond to complex issues.
  • Ability to deliver health promotion initiatives on sensitive andstigmatisedtopics in community or healthcare settings.
  • Demonstrated IT competency including use of service databases telephony online enquiry systems with the ability to accurately record information and maintain data integrity.
  • Professional level competency in a community language(preferred).

Remuneration

This role is offered on a casual basis covered by the WHV Enterprise Agreement 2025 offering an hourly rate of $66.64 (inc. casual loading).
