About The Team

The School of Environmental and Conservation Sciences (ECS) part of the College of Environmental and Life Sciences is a multidisciplinary school offering three undergraduate majors Conservation and Wildlife Biology Environmental Sciences and Management and Marine Biology as well as the Graduate Certificate in Environmental Assessment and Management Graduate Diploma and Master in Environmental Sciences.

We deliver strong experiential learning across all programs and consistently achieve high student satisfaction. ECS Contributes to Murdoch Universitys reputation for impactful translational research through diverse applied projects that address environmental policy and conservation challenges.

Our research excellence is supported by collaborations with government industry NGOs and Traditional Owners. ECS fosters a positive and collegial research culture for both emerging and established academics and is home to a large active community of higher-degree students.

Your New Role!

A Lecturer (Level B) plays a key role in advancing the discipline through high-quality research scholarly publications and active professional engagement. This position contributes significantly to the Schools teaching portfolio by preparing and delivery lectures tutorials and other learning activities as well as supervising Honours and postgraduate students. The role also involves undertaking a broad rage of administrative and service responsibilities within the College and across the University.

Your key responsibilities will include

  • Deliver high-quality lectures tutorials and practicals in oceanography and marine pollution units and develop review and update curriculum materials that integrate physical oceanography with marine biology
  • Supervise Honours undergraduate and postgraduate research projects provide academic mentorship and contribute to School activities including outreach engagement and administrative responsibilities
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in physical oceanography and related fields publish in peer-reviewed outlets secure external research funding and engage in ongoing professional development and partnerships within and beyond the University

This Continuous Full Time (37.5 hours per week) attracts a remuneration of $113247.00 $134148.00(pro rata) plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

What youll bring to the role:

  • PhD in Physical Oceanography Marine Sciences Environmental Physics or a closely related field with demonstrated experience teaching oceanography and marine pollution within marine biology context
  • Proven ability to explain complex mathematical and physical concepts to students from diverse academic backgrounds particularly those in biological sciences
  • Strong research track record evidenced by peer-reviewed publication successful grant applications and original research contributions in physical oceanography with relevance to marine biology and marine pollution
  • Experience supervising Honours and postgraduate students delivering fieldwork and laboratory based learning and assessing student performance across varied formats
  • Excellent organisational and teamwork skills a collaborative approach to interdisciplinary research and a demonstrated commitment to equity diversity and inclusion
