POSITION SUMMARY
Generates commercial loans and lines of credit while adhering to all Bank Policies and appropriate Federal and State Regulations with minimal Manager oversight. Successfully manages a larger portfolio of commercial loans and lines of credit than that of a Commercial Loan Officer I. This position requires more technical skills and broader more extensive experience than required for a Commercial Loan Officer I.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Generates New Commercial Loans and Other Business
- Interviews applicants and requests specified information for loan application.
- Corresponds with or interviews applicants or creditors to resolve questions regarding application information.
- Works with an assigned Commercial Loan Assistant (CLA) to request applicant credit reports background checks reference checks and other information pertinent to loan applicants evaluation.
- Analyzes applicant financial status credit history and collateral to determine feasibility of granting loan or submits full application package to credit analyst for complete underwriting commensurate with the size of the loan.
- Compiles loan package and facilitates negotiation of loan structure with applicant including fees loan repayment options and other credit terms.
- Approves loan within specified limits or refers loan to higher authority for approval as required under Loan Policy.
- Ensures timely loan closing and funding activities.
- Actively builds a network of external COIs to generate referral sources.
- Promotes and cross-sells other products and services as appropriate.
Services Customer Portfolios:
- Provides exceptional customer service to their customer base. Works with CLA to effectively resolve problems and address customer needs in a timely and professional manner.
- Meets regularly with customers to strengthen the relationship keep apprised of customers business and expand the relationship as appropriate.
- Monitors customers financial performance. Assures that each loan within his/her portfolio has the appropriate risk rating assigned at all times.
- Maintains and updates credit files in accordance with Loan Policy requirements.
- Works proactively with delinquent and/or deteriorating credits. Prepares Risk Rating changes CAC reports and other reports as needed. Facilitates the timely transfer of deteriorating relationships to the Special Asset Officer after consultation with Manager or higher authority.
- Represents the Bank effectively and professionally at events and on non-profit or banking related boards and organizations.
- Performs additional duties as requested.
Position Metrics:
- Manages a Commercial Loan and Commercial Line of Credit portfolio made up of diverse and often complex relationships. After three years the portfolio would be expected to be in the $35MM to $75MM range depending on the market area served and a Lenders management responsibilities (if any).
- Loan Authority commensurate with this position is as follows:
- $350000 - $500000 secured
- $25000 unsecured
- $100000 incremental
- The Officer Title of this position is generally at the VP or SVP level.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree or 5 plus years related experience.
- Direct commercial lending experience with credits of increasing complexity of 5 years or greater.
- Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or government regulations.
- Ability to work on mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Extensive and broad range of experience working with more complicated and larger credits; in terms of financial size/complexity uniqueness or complexity of their business/industry and other attributes.
- Experience working successfully with participant banks (either as lead or a participant)
- Experience working with outside counsel on customized loan documents with the ability to successfully negotiate/amend the loans terms and conditions with borrowers and their counsel including finding potentially creative ways to meet all parties needs.
- Experience formulating and structuring financial covenants including how they interact to achieve desired results. Understanding covenant waivers including the basis and terms under which they may be granted.
- Experience successfully managing a portfolio of diverse and often complex commercial relationships.
- Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to work with software programs such as Microsoft Office CreditQuest Microsoft Teams Xperience and Salesforce etc.
- Must be thoroughly familiar with and adhere to Loan Policy and other Bank Policies.
- Ability to deliver negative news and explain the reasoning behind the decision.
- Good interpersonal communication.
- Must maintain confidentiality and privacy.
- Professional appearance; grooming and dress consistent with MB appearance policy.

- Varied work with a normal expenditure of energy and little or no unusual physical effort

- Work involves intermittent periods of moving and being stationary
- Working conditions include well-lit and well-ventilated areas
- Travel to other Mascoma Bank locations is required for training and occasional meetings
