This organization plays a critical role in ensuring buildings operate efficiently safely and reliably through modern automation and control systems.
They are seeking a hands-on Controls Technician who thrives in field environments and takes pride in diagnosing commissioning and optimizing automation systems that directly impact facility performance. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems working independently and seeing projects through from installation to successful system operation.
This is not an entry-level electrical position. Candidates must have direct exposure to building automation controls or HVAC automation systems and demonstrate a stable reliable work history.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & System Implementation

Install terminate and test low-voltage control wiring for automation systems including sensors controllers actuators and control panels.

Support deployment of Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems across commercial and industrial facilities.

Interpret wiring diagrams control schematics and sequence documentation to ensure proper installation.
Commissioning & System Validation
-
Perform startup and commissioning activities to confirm proper system performance and integration.
-
Verify point-to-point wiring controller functionality and communication between system components.
-
Ensure automation systems are operating according to design intent and customer requirements.
Troubleshooting & Service
-
Diagnose and resolve system issues involving wiring controllers network communication or control logic.
-
Identify root causes of system malfunctions and implement effective corrective actions.
-
Perform preventative maintenance and system performance checks.
Field Operations & Documentation
-
Work independently across customer sites throughout the Mobile Bay region.

Document system changes troubleshooting findings and service activities clearly and accurately.
-
Maintain professional customer interactions while representing the organization in the field.
Required Qualifications (Strictly Required)

35 years of hands-on experience working with building automation systems HVAC controls or industrial automation.

Demonstrated experience with Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems.

Strong working knowledge of low-voltage wiring control panels and field devices.

Proven troubleshooting and commissioning experience in real-world field environments.

Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams electrical schematics and control drawings.

Valid drivers license and ability to travel locally to customer sites.
-
Stable employment history demonstrating reliability and professional consistency.
Preferred Qualifications (Strongly Emphasized)
Standout candidates will possess:

Experience with BACnet Modbus or other automation communication protocols.

Familiarity with building automation platforms such as Tridium Niagara Schneider Electric Honeywell or Johnson Controls.

Experience commissioning commercial HVAC automation systems.

Strong electrical troubleshooting skills involving controls and communication systems.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in field environments.

Mechanical and HVAC system knowledge related to automation control.
