Job Summary

COMMERCIAL MANAGER

The role

As part of the Commercial Group the Commercial Counsel will have a responsibility to provide a pro-active and timely commercial service to both internal and external customers. The incumbent is expected to be an active member of the Commercial Group and contribute to the achievement of the role of the Commercial Group.

Further the successful candidate will:

  • Undertake contractual management of projects to maximise commercial outcomes and performance including drafting of tasking orders and contract change proposals.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks.
  • Manage and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external customers.
  • Provide commercial advice to project and tender teams ensuring that key commercial legal and contractual issues are dealt with in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Lead negotiations with customers subcontractors and suppliers relating to contractual issues teaming arrangements licensing arrangements and confidentiality agreements to deliver appropriate commercial outcomes.
  • As part of tender and proposals teams take a proactive role in commercial legal and contractual matters including the preparation of tender and contract documentation and statements of compliance

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

This is a Full time Adelaide based role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • 5 years post admission experience in a reputable law firm and/or in-house team.
  • Strong commercial law experience with a focus on negotiating and forming complex and innovative commercial arrangements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant contract law and broad experience negotiating legal terms and conditions with customers.
  • Experience in reviewing and responding to requests for tenders and the like.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and form successful business relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to devise and implement successful commercial strategies.
  • Demonstrated contract drafting and legal interpretation skills.
  • Proven ability to identify and act on legal and commercial opportunities and risks.
  • Proven commercial acumen with the ability to recognise issues and identify key risk areas.
  • Proven ability to manage internal and external stakeholders and build effective relationships.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Law.
  • Current SA legal practitioner practising certificate.


As a defence security clearance is required for this role applicants will be required to hold an Australian Defence Security Clearance to baseline/NV1/NV2 level or have the ability to gain one. Information including past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to check eligibility for access to materials controlled under various export control regimes including ITAR.
