Job Summary

Industrial Officer

At the NSW Department of Education we educate and inspire lifelong learners from early childhood through schooling to vocational education and training.

  • Multiple Temporary and Ongoing Full-Time positions available
  • Located in Parramatta with flexible working arrangements available
  • Salary from $113574 to $125720 (Clerk Grade 7/8) plus superannuation and leave loading

About the role:

The Department of Education (department) is seeking an industrial relations (IR) practitioner to work in a centralised and high-performing IR team within a fast-paced work environment with competing priorities.

As an Industrial Officer you will:

  • Provide timely accurate advice on industrial instruments and government/department policies.
  • Analyse industrial instruments and employment conditions
  • Negotiate and draft compliant employment conditions
  • Deliver reports on conditions trends and industrial action
  • Provide advocacy support in disputes at industrial tribunals
  • Support team engagement with internal and external stakeholders

  • Solid interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills including collaborating with colleagues and relationship building with key stakeholders.

  • The ability to manage self and work independently to complete assigned tasks.
  • The ability to recognise when support is needed from senior team members regarding contentious industrial issues with potential for further implications.
  • Accountability for the quality integrity and validity of your work.
  • Initiative and curiosity to explore problems and potential solutions.
  • The ability to obtain an understanding of departmental policies and procedures.
  • The ability to obtain knowledge of and commit to implementation of the Departments Aboriginal Education Policy and uphold the Departments Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

  • Demonstrated experience in an Industrial Relations role.
  • Ability to explain complex IR information to audiences who have limited IR understanding.
  • This role may suit a recent Law Graduate.
