Job Summary

GAI is seeking an Engineer 1 (transmission line) to join our Power Delivery team. Required skills include transmission line design experience critical thinking problem-solving organization team focus and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real-life problems. The Transmission Line Engineer 1 is responsible for technical leadership and the successful delivery of transmission line designs while maintaining the scope schedule budget and quality of projects within GAIs Transmission & Distribution Division. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical communication and computer skills.

Competency

  • Knowledge of project management skills and uses of intermediate practices to increase productivity efficiency and accuracy. May serve as PM Coach to Task Managers and other PMs.
  • Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:
    • Preparation of Specification Packages
    • Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings
    • Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD PLS-POLE and PLS-Tower
    • Design and Analysis of foundations.
    • Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes standards and specifications.
    • Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
    • Coordination and development of permits for Railroads Roadways and Environmental Crossings.
  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.
  • Implements effective engineering methods provides technical guidance and acts as a resource for engineers and designers.
  • Directly manages projects with no limit to the number or value of individual projects managed.
  • Coordinates and develops proposed scope schedule and fee for projects managed.
  • Assist in quality control and quality assurance of active projects providing peer reviews and training of engineers and designers in quality control processes.

  • Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields and ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Applies teamwork skills to effectively plan execute and manage scopes schedules and budgets to meet project stakeholder needs.

Minimum Years of Experience

  • 4 Years of Experience

Education

  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering

Certification/Licensure

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License

Technical Responsibilities

  • Occasionally designs portions of a project system component or process.
  • Prepares plans specifications and other project documents.
  • Designs and conducts analyses and interprets test data.

Project and Task Management

  • Occasionally assigns tasks to other technical and non-technical staff.
  • Occasionally plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
  • Prepares scopes budgets and schedules for assignments.
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or projects.

Management Responsibility

  • Receives general direction on key objectives. Receives guidance on unconventional/complex problems direction on modified techniques and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
  • Mentors junior staff by providing guidance explaining professional responsibilities and reviewing work products.
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.

Communication Skills

  • Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
