Position Locations: North Shore Private Hospital (primary) /- (subject to accreditation at each additional site) Macquarie University Hospital Sydney Adventist Hospital Northern Beaches Hospital Royal North Shore Hospital.

Position Objective

The purpose of the Clinical Fellowship in Reconstructive and Functional (RAF) Urology Fellowship is to provide sub-specialty training in reconstructive and functional urology including neuro-urology experience in all genders.

Depending on the level of experience on entry to the fellowship program and progress during the fellowship program it is anticipated that the Fellow (on completion of 12 months training) should be proficient in the diagnosis surgery and management of the urology conditions listed below.

The fellowship offers significant exposure to:

  • Overactive bladder advanced treatments including sacral neuromodulation onabotulinum toxin and percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation
  • Urodynamic testing and interpretation
  • Urinary incontinence in women including bulking agent injection and sling surgery
  • Urinary incontinence in men including incontinence after prostate treatments
  • Pelvic organ prolapse evaluation and treatment including sacral colpopexy and vaginal approach repair
  • Urethral reconstruction
  • Erectile dysfunction surgery such as penile prosthesis
  • Penile reconstructive surgery including surgery for Peyronies disease
  • Robotic urological reconstructive surgery

The Reconstructive and Functional Urology Fellow will be able to pursue their areas of interest within these boundaries. This would include clinical diagnosis surgery and research.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The Clinical Fellowship in Reconstructive and Functional Urology Fellowship is a 12 month fellowship and includes employment as a Fellow under the supervision of Dr Amanda Chung at the sites and hospital(s) listed above.

The fellow will undertake clinical and surgical training within the private rooms and associated hospitals working directly with the supervisors and academic research within the North Shore Urology Research Group associated with the Department of Urology Royal North Shore and North Shore Private Hospitals.

Each fellow will be expected to produce a minimum of 4 articles for publication in a peer reviewed journal.

Fellowship Application Criteria

Applicants for this fellowship will have already completed general Urology training and will have had exposure to urological upper and lower urinary tract as well as genitourinary surgery.

The applicant must:

  • Be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Have the appropriate level of post graduate urology training
  • Have demonstrated a high standard of clinical practice
  • Have demonstrated professional integrity
  • Have demonstrated the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Have demonstrated commitment to quality improvement
  • Have demonstrated ability to be adaptable to change
  • Have the clinical experience appropriate to the year of training
  • Have experience in scientific and/or clinical research
  • Have knowledge of appropriate clinical standards
  • Have knowledge of policies protocols and procedures to ensure acceptable practices
  • Have knowledge of urological surgical techniques
  • Have evidence of research experience including evidence of relevant published research
  • Have passed the English requirements in all four components (such as the IELTS) where applicable

Key Selection Criteria

Mandatory: Qualifications experience and personal skills as listed above

Optional: Evidence of extensive research experience including evidence of relevant published research

Current research projects available consist of several ongoing projects and new ones to be conducted all in the reconstructive and functional urology field including neuro-urology as well as topical research during the duration of the Fellowship.
