Applications are invited for the Fellowship year 2027 from composers normally resident in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The Mozart Fellowship is one of New Zealands most valuable prestigious and longestablished composer residencies supporting New Zealand composers since 1969. It enables a composer to focus fulltime on their creative work while becoming part of the vibrant arts community of Dunedin and the University of Otago Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka.
The Fellowship aims to support the development of original composition foster engagement with contemporary music and connect composers with the University community.
Residency in Ōtepoti during the Fellowship period is expected
What the Fellowship offers
A 12month fulltime position (February 2027 January 2028).
A stipend equivalent to a University Lecturers salary.
A dedicated office within the Music Programme School of Performing Arts.
Access to the University Library and support services.
Access to the Universitys musical academic and artistic community.
Optional opportunities to share perform or discuss your work with staff and students of The School of Performing Arts.
Who can apply
Composers normally resident in New Zealand.
Composers with talent intent and a serious commitment to their art.
You might be emerging or established what matters is the authenticity of your voice and your readiness to make the most of a year devoted to composition.
Applicants must be 27 and meet the New Zealand eligibility pathways outlined in the Conditions of exceptional circumstances criteria may be waived.

Samples of work (web links to three pieces including scores and recordings).
Two referee reports from referees well placed to comment on your composition experience (view the template HERE).
