Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in secondary mainstream educational settings Do you have the expertise to help schools implement trauma-informed strategies to enhance learning and well-being If so we have an exciting opportunity for you to make a real difference!

Due to the expansion of our school-to-school department we are looking for talented individuals to join our hard working and dedicated team to help pupils within our Local Authority to successfully access their mainstream provision. The majority of your time will be spent supporting different schools in localities.

About the Role

You can be deployed to any secondary provision base as demand requires as well as working with secondary and SEMH bases across the county preventing exclusions preparing and supporting pupils for reintegration within secondary settings. The role involves travel across the county for which mileage can be claimed in accordance with Local Authority policy. The posts are for a temporary 12 month period however there could be future opportunities based on funding availability.

Oakfield School is Leicestershires provision for primary and secondary school aged children who have been permanently excluded from school. Our Secondary Inclusion Partnership staff who currently put provision in place for secondary-aged children and young people who have been excluded from school or who are at risk of this have joined the team. You will be part of a vital team in an exciting period of development working with us to meet the needs of children and young people between the ages of 11 and 16 who struggle to manage in mainstream and need a different offer of education to secure their successful next steps.

We are looking for dedicated and caring practitioners who work well as part of a team whilst using their initiative when working independently. Staff who have worked in our team are highly sort after by mainstream schools so this is an ideal opportunity to develop your skills to progress your career.

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

About You

To apply for this post you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:

  • A HLTA qualification or equivalentwith GCSE Grade C or above or equivalent in Mathematics and English Language.
  • Experience of working with pupils with special educational needs in a secondary school secondary pupil referral unit or secondary special school with experience of teaching pupils with challenging social emotion and mental health needs.& experience in liaising with parents/carers.
  • Knowledge of SEND legislation and county SEND policy and procedures
  • Ability to apply up to date legislation and practice in supporting inclusion for young people with social emotional and mental health needs.& Ability to provide leadership and support to staff in managing the social emotional social and mental health needs of pupils.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior management other staff other agencies and gain their confidence & lead by example and motivate both staff and pupils.
  • Ability to provide strategic direction and development on curriculum development and current issues.
  • Ability to work with a large degree of autonomy within agreed boundaries.
