About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Pre-College theAssistantDirector ofAcademic Operationsworks with the Directorand other senior programstaffto develop manage and evaluate Boston University Summer TermPre-College programswhich enrollover 1500 high school students each summer with specific focus onoverseeingand implementing theacademiccomponentsofthepre-college program portfolio.Duties include supervising many complex administrative academicand financialtasks.
The Assistant Director serves as a conduit between the senior program staff and Pre-College Program Managers to ensure effective implementation of strategic goals and coordination of all logistical aspects of program operations. Coreresponsibilities includeestablishing andmaintainingacademic relationships with faculty and staff across the Universityand overall recruitment hiringtraining and supervision of instructional staff; supporting the academic success of program participants; leading new program and/or curricular development;creation and enforcement of program policies; and contributing to the adjudication ofdisciplinary violations and addressing parent/guardian concerns when programs are in session.
Key Responsibilities
Managesthe academic operations of the summer term pre-college programs office ensuringcoordinationand consistency across multiple unique programs.
Drivescurricular innovationto addnew programsandcourses andevaluate existing offerings.Creates andmaintainsrelationships with colleges departments and faculty.
Contributes to conversations aboutprogram policies with the Directorand Assistant Directorwho manages residential and student life.
Contributesgeneral oversight of admissions processes and systems.
Reserves needed classrooms and otheracademic program spacesapprovesordersforinstructional materials field trip expensesand otheritems required by instructors for course needs.
Supervisesat least twofull-time Program Manager-level roles; may also supervise seasonal student and administrative workers.
Interviews hires supervises and evaluatespart-time faculty/adjuncts graduatestudentsand other instructional staffto teach in thepre-collegeprograms including the recruitment of RISE faculty mentors.
Managesjoboffer/contractsystem inPowerBIand assurescompliance with BU POM(Protection of Minors)policies and procedures including background checks.
Contributes to seasonal instructional and residential stafftrainingsand student orientations.
Serves intheon-call hierarchyevenings and weekends when programs are in session.
Withseniorteamrespondstoandhelpsresolvedisciplinary medical or mental healthcrises that arise when programs are in session. Liaises with program staff and parents/guardians to support issue resolution.
Contributes toincome and expense projections andinforms Pre-CollegePrograms budget. Managesacademicexpenses and authorizes payroll forpre-collegeprograminstructional staff. Works with theDirector to project annual Summer TermPre-Collegeincome and expenses.
RepresentsSummer Term Pre-College programs to external audiences. Organizes informational presentations in-person and online to prospective students and families; mayattend tabling events.

About the Candidate:
Masters degree PhD preferred.
At leasteightyears ofprofessionalexperience with at least 3years experienceinsecondary or higher education administrationwith preferencefor experience in both areas.
Experience with curriculum development at the secondary and/or college level.
Experience in studentmanagement residential education or other customer-facingroles.
Professionalism attention to detail diplomacy creativity and enthusiasm.
Comfort with technology and data management; experience with SlateTechnolutionsdesired but not.
Some evening and weekend hours are necessary.
