Job Duties
This position will manage plant and personnel to ensure plant efficiency and system reliability. Responsibilities include; supervise and direct the daily operation maintenance and improvements of the central steam generating plant and related steam distribution system; establish and monitor plant operation standards and protocol personnel performance guidelines regulatory compliance reporting procedures and filings; plan direct and supervise routine plant maintenance by plant staff or outside vendors including repairs improvements and preventive maintenance; ensures that the Heat Plant Facility is emergency ready in the event of a campus-wide emergency; schedule report and track maintenance inspections in timely manner and ensure filings are made with appropriate regulatory authority or the Director of Facilities; provide weekly and monthly operations report to Director of Facilities; schedules weekly and monthly inspections of heat pump fuel tank heat plant air compressor fuel pump oil heater and booster feed water system stack and clean air system and boiler systems; supervise repair and preventive maintenance of building mechanical systems and underground distribution systems; evaluate cost estimates for repairs by outside vendors; ensures that data entry of maintenance and repair information is keyed in the Maximo data tracking system; monitors the storage of critical documents including environmental and permit submissions; develop department safety/operating training standards and schedules; manages and monitors status of invoices purchase orders and payments by vendors subcontractors and contractors; and represents University in capital improvement meetings in order to develop a long term strategy for heat plant and infrastructure improvements.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable experience operating and maintaining of steam and power plant equipment; extensive knowledge of pressure vessel boilers and maintenance water treatment and auxiliary mechanical equipment operations and maintenance associated with steam/heat plant operations is required. Experience in the maintenance and operation of utility or industrial power production systems is required. Demonstrated supervisory experience is required. Successful candidate must be flexible energetic and willing to work for a 365/24 hour operation; may be required to work alternate shifts. Demonstrated experience working with SCADA Automation Systems; demonstrated project management experience is required; basic skill in welding braising and soldering all types of metals plumbing pneumatic refrigeration electrical applications and trouble shooting skills are required; ability to analyze the performance and operating efficiency of the systems to optimize energy use and production; Must be able to climb crawl and bend through boiler opening to inspect and lift up to 50 pounds; must have visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate vehicles equipment and hand power tools.

Experience working in a university setting is preferred.
