About the role
The Senior Project Officer Portfolio Management provides high-level advice analysis and support to ensure effective portfolio governance systems and processes are in place to manage complex portfolios of work.

Working within the Portfolio Management Office Delivery Office you will support sponsors governance committees and senior executives with insights on portfolio performance risks interdependencies and issues. You will also contribute to building the capability and maturity of our project management community to help ensure teams can deliver against government priorities and strategic outcomes. You will operate with a high level of autonomy managing priorities in a complex and sensitive environment and working collaboratively across a large geographically dispersed organisation.

You are confident engaging with senior stakeholders translating complex information into clear insights and influencing outcomes through evidence-based advice and capability building.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience in a senior portfolio management role.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting portfolio governance performance monitoring and outcomes reporting including using project management systems and dashboards (e.g. PowerBI) to provide meaningful strategic insights.

To be successful in the role ideally you will have the following abilities:

  • Strong portfolio program and/or project management expertise including using and supporting others to use project management and reporting systems.
  • Proven ability to analyse performance data and provide high-quality strategic and actionable advice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement influence and negotiation skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • A team-oriented approach that positively contributes to our strong team culture.
