Delawares Attorney General the States chief law enforcement officer has a broad responsibility to combat crime uphold civil rights safeguard families provide legal services to entirety of state government and fight fraud.
In the Civil Division approximately 80 attorneys provide legal support to the executive branch agencies in the form of general counsel advice administrative hearing prosecutions board representation and all stages of civil litigation.

Summary Statement

The Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Division seeks a Deputy Attorney General (DAG) to represent the Department of Technology and Information (DTI). This DAG position is in the Civil Division Fiscal Integrity and Protection Unit (FIPU) New Castle or Kent County and is primarily responsible for representing DTI. DTI is the States central IT organization responsible for delivering core services to other State organizations and exercise governance over the technology direction and investments of the state. This DAG will serve as general counsel to the Cabinet Secretary/Chief Information Officer and to DTI leadership overseeing six offices: Administration Office Operations Office Technology Office Partner Services Office and Security Office.

* The salary of $87458 for the Deputy Attorney General I position applies to candidates who are admitted to the Delaware Bar

Essential Functions

Primary duties include but are not limited to providing general counsel on procurement law contracts law and negotiations cyber security and liability appropriate data usage privacy laws data retention and preservation inadvertent disclosures legislation IT project management legal issues appropriations labor and employment and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The DAG will serve as counsel to State boards including the Delaware AI Commission the Cyber Security Advisory Council and the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program Planning Committee.


The DAG will have other duties related to FIPU as well as handling additional assignments as directed by the State Solicitor Deputy State Solicitor Unit Head or Assistant Unit Head.

Job Requirements

Membership in Delaware Bar is required. The most qualified candidates have some prior general counsel and technology law experience; however such expertise and experiences are not required for selection. The DAG should be able to take a proactive approach to assisting its agency clients therefore a successful candidate should have the ability to work with State agencies to identify potential issues and assist State agencies to address such issues in order to minimize or avoid future legal action. The DAG should be able to work independently meet deadlines and communicate clearly with client agencies and should have demonstrated legal ability and a thorough knowledge of relevant laws and court rules.

The DAG must have a willingness to travel within the State to meet departmental needs and meeting schedules.
