Position Highlights:
What you will do:
The Respiratory Therapist participates in patient assessment which includes the pulmonary history pulmonary pharmacology complete chest examination arterial/venous blood gas acquisition/analysis knowledge of chest roentgenology pulmonary function testing patient motivation and self-care education; elective and/or emergency endotracheal intubation and extubation cardiopulmonary resuscitation; participation in hospital/respiratory related inservices patient/family education programs/support groups respiratory therapy student rotations nursing education updates and community service education programs.
Responsibilities:
Gather data to be able to accurately assess a patients current health status
Assessment is made according to a patients special physical or age related needs
Observe record and report symptoms reactions and progress of patients
Administer and record prescribed medications treatments and diagnostic procedures (adult and neonatal mechanical ventilation blood gas acquisition and analysis monitoring and testing pulmonary function hemodynamic monitoring and setup of lines)
Responsible for airway management including performing endotracheal intubations and extubations pulmonary hygiene and tracheostomy care and emergency life support procedures
Perform all aspects of Pulmonary Function Testing
Participates in setting standards for patients care promotes their implementation and assists in monitoring these standards through the continuous quality improvement program
Maintains clinical knowledge evaluates new techniques and equipment
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy
Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the New York State Dept. of Education
Registered by the NBRC
BLS required
Pay Range: $34.00-$44.00
Pay is based on experience skills and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
