Care Manager or Nursing Services Manager Retirement & Care Centre
An established organisation with over 65 years of experience in the retirement sector is seeking a Nursing Services Manager to join one of its well-run care centres. The group operates more than 25 retirement facilities and cares for approximately 3000 residents offering independent living assisted living and frail care services.
This role is suited to an experienced Registered Nurse with strong leadership ability and a solid background in geriatric care.
Role Overview
The Nursing Services Manager is responsible for the overall clinical and operational management of the care centre. This includes ensuring high standards of nursing care legislative compliance staff management budgeting reporting and general facility oversight.
You will lead a team of Registered Nurses Enrolled Nurses ENAs and Carers ensuring quality resident care while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with SANC regulations CPOA policies Parliamentary legislation and municipal by-laws
- Maintain updated policies procedures and regulatory files
- Supervise nursing staff to ensure care is delivered according to scope of practice
- Investigate incidents complaints and implement corrective measures
Resident Care
- Assess new admissions in conjunction with the social worker (including home visits where required)
- Develop and review individualised care plans
- Monitor daily health status of residents
- Ensure accurate recording of treatments and nursing interventions
- Compile monthly and quarterly medical reports
- Liaise with the multidisciplinary healthcare team
Staff Management
- Assess staffing ratios and manage rosters (shifts leave rotations)
- Monitor attendance performance and conduct
- Conduct staff appraisals and regular meetings
- Implement in-service training and orientation programmes
- Manage disciplinary processes where required
- Arrange agency staff when necessary
Administration & Reporting
- Submit monthly returns (admissions discharges occupancy stock financials)
- Maintain asset registers and safety documentation
- Plan and conduct fire drills
- Chair staff and safety meetings
- Liaise with the Care Operations Manager on operational matters
Housekeeping & Catering Oversight
- Monitor hygiene and cleaning standards
- Supervise food quality nutritional value and special diets
- Monitor food consumption and related costs
Financial Oversight
- Monitor monthly financial performance
- Prepare and manage the annual budget
- Promote optimal occupancy levels
- Monitor age analysis and follow up on non-paying accounts
- Assist residents with managing pocket money where required
Minimum Requirements
- Registered Nurse qualification
- Active SANC registration
- Minimum age: 30 years
- Proven geriatric nursing experience
- Experience in a retirement frail care or similar environment
- Experience managing RNs ENs ENAs and Carers
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Willingness to work in Hout Bay
Remuneration & Benefits
- Basic Salary: R32 860 per month
- Cell phone allowance: R250 per month
- Annual Leave: 21 days per annum
