Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $109000.00 - $166000.00. In addition this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors including but not limited to: scope of role level of experience education accomplishments internal equity budget and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

What you will be doing

The Director of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Operations is responsible for the overall clinical operational administrative financial and facilities management of the LI ASC. The Director ensures the delivery of high-quality safe efficient and compassionate patient care in alignment with the philosophy mission and strategic vision of the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS).

This role provides visible effective leadership for daily ASC operations while driving continuous improvement in patient experience safety staff engagement and operational performance. The Director is accountable for maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory accreditation and licensing requirements and for fostering a culture of excellence accountability and collaboration.

The Director develops and maintains strong working relationships with physicians hospital leadership ASC Board members and enterprise partners and serves as a key liaison between the ASC and HSS leadership to ensure alignment of policies procedures and strategic initiatives. The position works closely with the VP and AVP of Perioperative Services represents the ASC on hospital committees and systemwide initiatives and operates effectively within a highly matrixed governance structure.

The Director of ASC Operations demonstrates strong management problem-solving and change leadership capabilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously influence executive-level stakeholders and apply contemporary performance improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean performance management frameworks). The role requires transformational leadership skills and a collaborative approach to engaging staff in achieving organizational goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical and Operational Leadership

  • Provides oversight of all LI ASC clinical and administrative operations to ensure safe efficient and patient-centered care delivery.
  • Ensures alignment of daily operations with HSS strategic priorities quality standards and service excellence expectations.
  • Oversees patient flow throughput scheduling efficiency session utilization and access to care.
  • Leads implementation and operational integration of new programs services and physicians within the LI ASC.
  • Utilizes data dashboards and performance metrics to drive operational decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Applies Lean and other performance improvement methodologies to enhance workflows reduce variation and improve outcomes.

Quality Safety and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with all federal state and local regulatory requirements and accreditation standards applicable to ambulatory surgery centers.
  • Oversees readiness for surveys inspections and audits; leads corrective action planning as needed.
  • Promotes a culture of safety quality and accountability across all disciplines.

Personnel and Talent Management

  • Provides direct supervision to the Clinical Services Manager and Administrative Manager; indirect oversight of nursing clinical support and patient access staff.
  • Oversees recruitment onboarding performance management staff development and retention strategies.
  • Ensures completion of annual evaluations goal setting performance improvement plans and mandatory education requirements.
  • Leads regular leadership meetings and daily huddles to ensure alignment accountability and follow-through.
  • Serves as a mentor and coach to emerging leaders and high-potential staff.

Financial and Resource Management

  • Prepares and manages the LI ASC operating and capital budgets; monitors expenses and explains budget variances.
  • Oversees purchasing invoices and resource allocation to ensure fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency.
  • Partners with finance and executive leadership to support sustainable growth and financial performance.

Facilities and Site Development

  • Serves as a key operational leader in LI ASC development renovations and expansion initiatives.
  • Participates in clinical and operational programming space design staffing models equipment planning and go-live execution.
  • Ensures a safe clean and well-functioning physical environment including oversight of maintenance equipment and supply readiness.

Culture Governance and Enterprise Collaboration

  • Fosters an inclusive respectful and collaborative workplace culture aligned with HSS values.
  • Builds strong productive relationships with surgeons anesthesia providers and physician office staff.
  • Serves as a liaison between the ASC hospital leadership and the LI ASC Board.
  • Represents the LI ASC on hospital committees and systemwide initiatives as appropriate.
  • Partners with executive leadership to set priorities manage change and advance strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience preferably in an ambulatory surgery center or perioperative setting.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex operations in a regulated healthcare environment.

Education

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Masters degree or equivalent preferred
